When i put my new timing belt on i f-ed up and didnt torque it so it was to tight then i got lazy and didnt adjust the tension. Well now my stud has broken off clean with the block. What i need to know is how far does the stud go in the block so i can try to drill it out. Also where can i get a new stud i have heard the z31 is the same. Any info would be great.

Thanks -Eric

I measured the thread depth of the stud off an RB20 block to be 13mm. That should give you a starting point.

If you have a welding machine you can get it out really easy. Take a nut (10mm or so) and set it on the broken stud. (as if you are going to thread it onto the broken stud) Weld inside of the nut so it welds it to the broken stud. Let it cool down then use a 10mm wrench and just unscrew the broken stud.

If you don't have a welding machine you can drill into the bolt and use an easy-out extractor and that should do the job. I wouldn't reccomend drilling too far into the hole or you may destroy the threads / hole.

don't use a ****ing ezy out, they break, and suck ***. Use a helicoli. They come in kits with the proper size you need for the thread. Basically if you don't know what it is. It comes with a tap/coils/inserter, then you buy the proper size drill bit that the kit requires.

You drill out the busted bolt, you then tap it with the provided tap, then insert your coil with the inserter, and screw in your new bolt for the tensioner..

Problem is you need to know the size and pitch of the bolt to get the kit. I did this with a broken cam retainer bolt.. and now about to do it with exhaust studs, worked amazing with the retainer

Now you might get buy with an ezy out... but I dont have that luck.

I personally never really liked the helicoil method much myself....welding has always worked fine and is quick and easy....and if you have a welder, technically free.

yeah don't have a welder.. just a little 200 dollar ***** lincoln wont exactly bond to thicker metals... so helicoil it is for me, a mechanic I know like swears by them, and he builds some sick ****.

M10 x 1.5It is the same dimensions as the idler bolt. I cannot comment on the length though.
