Need help with something please

I have been trying to help my friend get his sr20 running right after he got it back out of the shop. Shop did a shotty job on it but anyways we did a ecu code check and its throw the engine code 22 wich is the cas (cam angle sensor) and recently i have read that these like to go out on sr's frequently has anyone expierienced this before? If not what are some other things i could look for to fix the solution? Wealready did the timing its on were it needs to be so eliminate that.

Run for codes, then when it throws the CAS code try unplugging it and plugging it again, then reset the ECU. Has worked on some cars in the past.
