I am in the process of doing a DOHC swap into a 1990 SE. This is my first swap and I am not too mechanically inclined. I have a friend helping. We have a chiltons, but I dont have it handy right now and i need an answer. Do I need to remove the ALL the wires...for instance is it necessary to remove the wires that control the headlights??? I was removing zip ties and labeling everything before I remove the engine. Some of the wires lead into the the space between the fenders and the body. I dont want to remove my fenders to do this swap. Any help would be appreciated.

ANd before I get flamed, I DID search. I saw alot of threads, but none answering ym question

The engine and the engine harness are probably the only wiring that needs to be replaced. Everything else should be on a different harness entirely, or will plug into the DOHC harness. This is only from what I've seen of both motors and watching parts of a few SR swaps.

Yeah you just kinda confirmed whaT I was thinking. I noticed that the wires for the lights and what not go towards the car. So I just need to remove the harness ON the motor??? I read somemore after I posted this and thought the same thing. I have everything. Full harness, gauge cluster, ECU, power steering lines, etc.

Yup all you need is the dohc wireharness, ecu, coil, ign chip, gauge cluster and ps stuff. Its a straight bolt in job. Only problem you will encounter is the dash plug by the ecu. The dohc harness has fewer wires than the sohc plug. But its basically a match up and repin game.

so to do a sohc to dohc, you need a new gauge cluster too?

sure do, the speedometer will work but the tach wont. Sohc tach signal runs off of 12volts, dohc is 16 volts. The rest of the gauges work, fuel/water temp.

When doing a SOHC to DOHC swap, will any DOHC engine work? I mean after the DOHC components like the ecu and others, are replaced. For example, will a 95 engine work with 93 components?

The throttle cables are also different lengths from sohc to dohc. I am currently doing this swap (91 dohc into 89 chassis). I have TONS of pictures! if you need some advice email

Yup i forgot to add that in too, you can use the sohc one until you get a dohc one, but the throttle will open 1/2 way.

Nismo1182, didn't you say that you also need a MAF (in another thread) ?
