I bought my car 2 weeks ago, and i finnaly had some free time to start working on it. The timing chain was broken. Take a look at what i found inside. Also what else do i have to take off in order to replace the timing chain. i took the fan, water pump, thermostat, valve cover? What else do i need to take off.Is there a set by set on how to do this with pics so i can see waht to do.

thanks in advance for any help or tips.

That looks majorly f**ked up, you might as well drop the engine and do a complete rebuild or tear it apart to see if the valves are bent or if anything else has gone wrong.

Timing chains take a lot of work to break/snap, unlike rubber belts that gets changed over time.

Hope whoever you got the car from, didn't try to drive the car when it broke. You're in for a lot of work.

As for changing the chain out, you need to remove the upper and lower covers to get access to the chain. You can find a guide on how to swap the timing chain on google.

Yeah, I think you might spend your money and time more wisely if you just get a new motor.

I read on one of these sites that replacing the timing chain is no joke. Yours looks like it is going to need even more work. How that sproket bent is beyond me.

I've seen KA24E motors going for $100. I think that would be a better idea than to try to fix a motor that who knows will even be fixed after you replace the chain.

Good luck!!

holy crap, luckily i blew the headgasket before my chain went, so i did the rebuild then. but good luck, if it were me i'd get a new motor. not worth the time or money to rebuild that
