Hi there

So I bought a Kaaz to put in my 240.

I had a spare donor s14 auto diff so the plan was I was gonna install the Kaaz in it and then sell the 1-way S15 diff I had in my car

I put them side by side and noticed that S15 diff was slightly longer.

Does this mean that the driveshaft I have is shorter for S15?

If I still choose to install the Kazz in my S14 pumpkin then I will need a longer driveshaft, right?

On the other havd if I use the pumpkin from the S15 will my Kaaz fit that one?

Thanks

Greg

it would help to know what car this was going in.if its an s13, then you'll need to use the shorter diff pumkin with your s13 rear diff coverif its a s14 WITHOUT ABS and VLSD, then use the shorter pumpkinif its a s14 with ABS/VLSD, then use the longer diff

if you want to get rid of your s15 hlsd with the halfshafts, let me know

The diff internals are the same (R200s), however the carriers are obviously different.

Since i have no clue what motor you have in your car, I can't comment on which one you need. If you had ab S15 SR, something tells me this thread wouldn't be necessary. However, since it sounds like you've been running the S15 carrier, you either have been running the wrong driveshaft or got lucky and had an ABS driveshaft laying around or your car started off with ABS. Either way, if you want to use the S14 carrier, do what Bronze said. Get a non-abs driveshaft. If you don't want to get a driveshaft, swap the kaaz into the S15 carrier.

I just bought the car and I am discovering things

Car is a 97 non ABS ex-Auto with S15 engine and rear end and 5 speed gearbox

That S15 diff come out of the car and I cannot tell you what and if correct driveshaft was used.

All I'm trying to do is to install the Kaaz and I have access to spare S14 diffs/mainshafts.

Greg

PS are the halfshafts different betweeen S14 and S15?

If the S15 motor has a 5 speed gearbox on it, the S15 carrier isn't needed. The S15 rear end has the speed sensor on it as opposed to the gearbox like the S13 and S14 do. More than likely whoever installed it put an ABS driveshaft in. They're shorter and if they had left the non-abs driveshaft in place, it wouldn't have fit.

As far as the half shafts go, I'm not sure. The bolt patterns are identical, but I've never had the chance to futz with the helical half shafts. I will say that the VLSD and open diff half shafts are different, so it would be an educated assumption to say that the HLSD and open diff half shafts would be different as well.

How about just the Nissan diff, if I choose to install Kaaz in the S15 case?

Also what these 1 way S15 diffs are worth?

FYI

You were wery close but not quite.

Did the install last night and I ATTEMPTED to put the Kaaz into the S15 diff first. Everything looked the same BUT the bolts that secure Kaaz to the ring geat are thicker and will not go thru Kaaz diff. So you would have to drill out the holes in the Kaaz in order to put in the bigger bolts.

Second difference on the S15 diff are the stubs for the driveshats. They are same lenghts between S14 and S15 (Short one and a long one) but the spline diameter is bigger.

I guess they made the bolts and shafts beefier.

So I ended up installing the Kaaz in the "spare" pumpkin I had so the 1 way S15 unit is for sale
