I aligned the marks with the chain and have number 1 piston top. Does this look right? The lower tensioner piston is all the way out how do I get it aligned back in after I install the lower timing cover? Is the Tensioner installed correctly? Does the chain guides look right? Here are some pics let me know what you think. Engine is assembled using AMS basic kit with AMS rods.

Usually what I do is compress the tensioners (both on the head and the lower one on the block) and lock them closed (either with a pin or the clamp that comes on some of them) and assemble the entire timing chain, both lower and upper with the head. Last thing I do is pull the pins and let the tensioners expand against the set chains. ...THEN put the timing covers on.

I've done it a bunch of times and that routine seems to work the best for me. The way you have it, with the lower tensioner expanded like that, it will be very hard to get the main upper sprocket lined up with the head.

Thanks Fiz for the reply. What pin can I use to hold it in place and still be able to pull it out?

a really small allen wrench, paper clip or puch pin should work. It goes in the hole in the front of the tensioner

Thanks I used a push pin and it worked good. I just bend the push pin upwards and now I can pull it after I get the upper timing chain installed. Right now I am cleaning up the head and getting ready to install it. Only bad thing is 5 of the cam buckets fell out:( So now I will have to measure clearance on all the cam buckets. I am going to go ahead and swap in my 91 cams while I am at it. Hopefully there isn`t any difference between these 5 cam buckets.
