I recently bought an S13 with an RB25 in it. There are numerous problems with it so I decided to take it out, clean up the wiring, paint the engine bay and have a look over the engine. I found that:
1. It has an Rb20 gearbox
2. They have cut a section of the sump out so it doesn't hit the swaybar
3. the wiring is a lost cause
4. the mounts are s***...

My plan was to buy proper mounts (mckinney) along with a one piece aluminium driveshaft. However upon finding that the engine is attached to an RB20 box I believe that various aspects of my plan must change. Furthermore I cannot afford to go out and by and RB25 gearbox :(

Has anyone got insight into solutions to my dilemma. Has anyone been through this before??
Also can someone assess the pros and cons of not running a front sway bar for me as a mate mentioned this is possible and a stock sump would provide far better flow of oil to the dodgy one currently attached to the base of my engine...

Thanks guys!!

Sam

Sounds like a mess!
You may have to be the pioneer in this field, and sort through your specific problems, one at a time.
Try and get an un-chopped sump, and see if you can run a modified swaybar to suit.

buy mckinney mounts and get a new sump and run your sway bar

Did the swap run before you removed it?

Rb20 trannies are ok unless you trying to make more than 400whp

It's the TQ that will kill that 20 box. It should be fine tho, CarlH runs his RB30 behind a RB20 box. I wouldn't go around no lift shifting it or doing crazy burn outs with 26" slicks and dumping the clutch @ 8k lol.

Hey do you know if the mckinney transmission mount will fit normally?

Also would that mean I would need a new driveshaft?

Not planning on more then 400 and the RB20 box is in really good condition.

The swap did run before I removed it however it would overheat and when I spun (predominently a track car) It would stall and wouldn't start for about a minute.

I took all the wiring out for that reason and will most likely purchase the chasebays engine harness and work on the chassis harness myself as they are both absolute s*** fights.

pfff burrnnoutts...don't have time for them haha :P

I cant afford to waste tyres on that so I go drifting instead haha No plans on ever drag racing it so I will fortunately be out of this category

It is starting to seem like I will be needing a custom Driveshaft...Anyone got any alternatives??

Also is there a difference between Syko and Mckinney mounts
Cheers

If its just the rb20 trans you don't need a custom drive shaft. Just used the S13 5spd drive shaft. I think Syko you have to use the skyline cross member, the Mckinneys uses the 240sx cross member. You would need to get the Mckinney RB20 trans mount and the RB25 engine mount kit.

From what I've read the difference between the two is engine placement. Syko uses the r33 crossmember and because of that the engine will sit a little higher and slightly forward. McKinney sets the engine lower and slightly back more (toward the firewall). I'm ordering a set of McKinney mounts and semi solid inserts. Plus I won't need to source a r33 crossmember.
