Need Help with Navigation System Addresses for Different Regions

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I encountered a problem last week when I decided to drive my car to Queens, NY from Arlington, Virginia. I couldn't get the system to let me enter the address. After a few attempts, I noticed I had to change regions, since I live (and purchased the vehicle) in region 6 (I think), and New York is located in Region 7 (I think).

However, when I changed to region 7, whenever I attempted to enter an address, the system would stop me and state "Sorry, there is no data for this location" - or something similar to that message.

So what I did was run back inside and print out directions from Google maps, and then I selected an area in Delaware (which is also in my region), just to get me closer to where I was going.

While driving, I noticed I was pretty much able to zoom into the street I was going to in New York and select it as a location. This is how I was able to finally make it there. However, the next day I decided to drive up to Connecticut, and I noticed I was able to punch in the address. The "no data" message no longer flashed on the screen.

Did the car download the data via the satellite antenna? Or what is going on? I'm almost 100% sure the dealer gave me a manual for the Nav system, but I looked everywhere and could not find it for the life of me. Am I crazy, or did we not receive a separate manual for the navigation unit?

Does anyone know if we were also provided with map data cd's for the different regions? Or do these cars only come loaded with data from the region they are sold in? I'm really confused with this.

If data cd's are not included, are we supposed to purchase them everytime we want to take a trip outside our region? I'd really appreciate it if someone could clear this up for me.

CaribMon71,

Trust me, you are not going crazy. He is the deal. If your nav says that the location can not be found, then that street or streets like mine is not in the software. The satelite is used for where you are, points of interest, traffic, weather, and distance to place/next turn not to locate the streets. The street locations are on the software. The current 07-08 software is missing many streets. I have dealt with this for a week now. I heard from many sources that if a street was built within 2.5 years, it will not be on the software for 2.5 or even 3 years later. I can not find over 100 streets where I live and our new city ws built in 2006. 08-09 still does not have my streets. I did tell the company of the nav software about it.

What you need to do is buy the Map Software for $149.00, however, mine was $55.00, but some say that it is not the right software. I will see when I get it. Once you buy it, give it to the service man, they will install it for you for 1-2 hours labor. That is all you need to do.

That is an interesting concern.

Are you planning on bringing your EX in to the dealer anytime in the near future? I would like to take a look at it.

There are a few things I would like to look at. You may have an issue saving a home location but you should be able to cross zones without an issue. I wonder if this has something to do with the NavTraffic software, because I know even the older (like 2.1 old) could go cross country with no logic issues. I know there are a few new software additions we can install in your EX to see if that has any effect on this. There may also be a different way to get it to a cross zone trip.

This does not require purchase of a Nav update coupon. The Navigation software version is not being altered so you do not need a disc or anything at this point.

This type of issue is one of my favorites, if you have some time and are in the area you are more than welcome to stop by and we can take a look at it, instead if speculating.

If you had an older DVD based Nav you know that they needed update discs that needed to be purchased from the supplier. The 07+ models switched to an HDD that runs on an internal hard drive so any updates are run through the Compact Flash drive. There is no need to buy a disc anymore to update the Nav software, you need to purchase a coupon code from http://www.navigation.com/is-b...u=YES to get a version 8.2 code then we need to run it through our computer and secure website to generate a code that is used to load the update onto your car. The coupons are on sale now so we have been doing a bunch of these and the new version is actually a decent improvement. They have changed the guidance layout slightly to mimic the portable units slightly more.

That is weird, yeah. I use my bat-nav a lot, (everyone has a name for their units/voices don't they?! Mine became known as bat-nav after a friend said my car was like the batmobile, all in black and with all the tech on it) and I've never had a problem with it finding an address.

It is somewhat annoying that you have to change regions in order to type in addresses, especially for me as I live right on the PA/NJ border (live in PA, work in NJ) and yes, PA is in one region and NJ is in the other! I get around this by speaking the addresses as much as possible (when I get her to understand my English accent). If you use the voice commands to input addresses, it doesn't matter what region it is set to...the inputs come in the reverse order to if you are typing it in. By voice, you are first asked for the state, then city, street, then house number. Typing it in is vice versa. Did you try putting the address in by voice command?

Never heard that you have to change regions at all. Addresses are done precisely with the nav.

I will definitely be stopping by. Funny, I never noticed you live right here in Virginia.

Ok, so I was not supposed to receive a stack of cd's or dvd's for the different regions? How about a manual for the Nav system? I'm almost sure I had one, but I can't find it anywhere. Maybe I'm just imagining it?

By the way, the street I was going to is probably as old as Queens itself.

Lol, Yeah I think I have met you before. Your the guys that always dries his car off with a microfiber towel right? I've got a Sham-Wow I could let you try out next time if you want, but I am loyal to my Lamb Skin chamois, although I fear I may have broken mine while attempting to clean it.

I have a feeling that there is a setting that we may be able to change to get this to do what you want. I know I have done this in other models using a location that is several zones over and it goes through without an issue. In either case you are probably due for a software flash anyway.

Below is a link to a digital copy of the owners manual and suppliment information that comes with your EX. http://www.infinitiusa.com/iapps/techpubs

Do you work at Passport Infinity? Yeah, I've only had my car washed there like twice. They don't really dry it well, but I don't mind drying it myself. If I don't dry it, it'll spot! So I guess I'll make an appointment to have it checked out.

Thanks!

Yes I do work there,

I'm not sure who your advisor is but you can email them to setup an appointment. Let whomever it is let them know you have spoken to me or they will have no idea what you are talking about.

I know our automatic carwashs' dryer sucks, and does not blow well enough. It is an inefficient and outdated model but they will have none of replacing it. If I were in that position I would do the same thing, I loath water spots although with the weather around here recently they seem to be unavoidable.

Thanks! I will do that. As soon as I bring down my workload a little, I'll set up an appointment.

It's great that there's an infinity technician on this forum!
