Hey everyone. After spending a long time thinking about which direction I want to go with my car, I have decided to Turbo my Ka. The reason I decided to go with the Ka is because I believe their is no replacement for displacement. Anyways, I have used the search button and I have found alot of good information regarding building a costom turbo kit for the Ka. I was also able to find information regarding building up a ka for turbo. All this was useful but I am having trouble sorting out what is really needed for a build up. What I would like to know what I would need to do to my motor ( in terms of a rebuild) to alow it to run 350hp. All I want to know is what needs to be done to the motor. I also know that Dauntless sells a rebuilt ka that is suited for turbo. Daunt, if you could break down the cost of the motor for me and what has been done to it i appreaciate it.

Thanks for your time...

St00pid (A Texas turner) Made 580 WHP on a KA with Crower Rods/JE pistons. I am not sure of what CR he was using. The rest of the setup consisted of:HaltechT70 Turbo (not sure how much boost) Revhard mani125 shoot of gasstock head + camsnot sure of intake manifoldbut anyways. The KA block once built is a strong motor with alot of potential. I am planing on copying the setup except I want to use a more realistic size turbo :D Maybee T3/60-1Remember though that tunning was a factor here. I would spend the extra cash for a standalone (Haltech, Motec, SDS, Tech II, ect)

Well I have a 90, and am just about done with a rebuild. for the 350 hp i would say all that is needed is forged pistons, rods, metal head gasket, and if you want to go over board from there its up to you. you may also want to go with a lower CR for more breathing room, and higher boost. Also with any rebuild might as well do a mild port and polish, and balence the engine good. then it all comes down to getting the right amount of fuel to the engine.

Right on guys thats what i was trying to find out. I am not really trying to go over board with this motor. I just want to make it strong so it can withstand being boosted. so far we are talking about forged pistons and rods. A metal head gasket and compression lowered. Also a port and polish to the head, and having the block balanced. Is their anything else that might need to be done?

I/H/E and proper tuning, I also plan on builing my KA (through Dauntless though). Research standalone systems like Haltech and Motec as well, see what fits into your budget and go from there. Good luck, report to us with progress/decisions and why, as information is always appreciated.

Good luck with finding a metal headgasket.... No one offers them readily available for a 240sx, and if you want one made your normally going to have to do a "group buy" of 50+... I am getting my block o-ringed and keeping the stock headgasket from courtesy nissan. This route should be fine.

If you want a copper gasket, either Mr Gasket or SCE Gaskets makes one for the KA. I can't remember which one though.

whats the benifit of a copper gasket over a stainless steel one? I was looking at daunts site, I am curious as to what he has done to that ka turbo rebuild motor he has for sale.

To bring this post back from the dead, just in case anyone's curious.

I called SCE just now and they actually have 6 different thickness for the head gasket for the ka24de. Anywhere from .033 all the way to .099 inches, skipping .070 inches. Seeing as .04 inches is 1 mm, and .08 inches is 2 mm you should be taken care of in terms of a thicker head gasket. And then the price, I was quite surprised about the price, the thinner ones go for ~60$, while the thickest ones go for ~130$...

Only thing I have to get over now is I need to o-ring the block or the head to get the gasket to seal correctly. But this is definately something I'm looking into now.
