Ok the water pump in my J30 went bad and I bought a replacement and I'm having a good friend of mine who is very good with cars do it for me. He told me it would be a very simple thing to do. Well we removed the air filter and disconnected the air ducts. Then took out the fan and its casing. Next came the radiator. After that we took out the pipes that covered the thermostat. Then we took the 2 covers that cover the top part of the timing belt.
Now as you know there is a 3rd cover covering the timing belt which needs to come out to get the bottom 4 screws of the water pump off. But to get that cover off, the crank pulley needs to come out. Well my friend and I ran into a snag here because we couldn't figure out how to take out the pulley. We eventually got to the manual and did the whole taking off the starter and wedging a "suitable tool" in the gear and I took out the crank bolt.
Now the next problem we ran into was taking off the actual pulley. We went and bought that special tool that looks like this
http://jlttruecoldair.com/zenc...3.jpg when we put one of the screws into the pulley the screw snapped inside the pulley. We went through the trouble of buying a screw extractor set and spent the whole next day trying to take out that screw. Screw never came out, extractor set didnt work, we ended up drilling into the broken piece so much that the screw just isnt there anymore. So tomorrow my friend says that were going to buy a re-threading kit for that. But after reading on these forums I have a feeling it would be easier to just from the start buy this pulley puller

I just dont know what to do. In a nutshell we cant get off the pulley, to take off that cover, to take off the last screws holding in the water pump. And I need to know if I should but the 2nd pulley puller because the first one was a complete nightmare. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance to anyone who helps.
