I have 1996 Infiniti G20. The car started to over heat really bad. I took it home and the next day I drove it to a local shop. The shop tells me I have a busted radiator and a busted air intake hose. He is trying to charger me 700$ total for the labor and parts. I don't have 700 to throw around. I am a college athlete so money isn't easy to come at the moment. can anyone help?

Do you have access to tools? Replacing a radiator isn't difficult and it could make a great project to introduce you to doing your own maintenance. You'll have to buy a radiator, a pair of hoses, and some coolant. Not sure what the shop means by air intake hose. Overheating shouldnt cause a problem with the tube that carries air into the engine.

Working on your car is much easier than it first appears. Step up to the challenge!

Agree. But If dyi is not an option, you might save some money by buying the parts yourself and have the mechanic supply just his labor. A replacement radiator for your car, for example, could be purchased for under $100, and it would be cheaper for you to supply the antifreeze rather than pay him with a markup. Food for thought.

Where do you live? If you are in the NYC area, have a driveway to do it, buy the parts, and buy a couple of beers, I can stop by and help you out.

You will need to buy a new radiator and coolant. I always buy new radiator hoses and hose clamps as well-- sometimes old hoses can split when you are swapping the radiator and they don't cost much. And it is one less thing to go wrong in the future.

You should be able to get the parts for less than $100.

Here's a link of step-by-step instructions on swapping out a radiator. Yes, it is for a 240sx but replacing a radiator is pretty universal. You should be able to do this without much issue and for a lot less than $700. Good luck!!
