I posted this on the PHPBB Nissan ECU Tuning board and will repost here:

I open the ca18det address file and then load a tuned .bin rom but Live Edit doesnt display the tuned MAF and injector values, just the OEM .bin values.

I can load a .bin I know has 450cc injectors and a Zmaf but the program shows "CA18DET MAF" and "370cc injectors stock" with 550cc as the default in the "change to" box.

I can change the values (to zmaf and 450cc) and it says "variables updated" (or whatever), then I save it. I close the program and re-open the newly saved file and it appears the changes I made didnt register, they never do.

Any ideas? I have the "demo version of Live Edit V last version discontinued"

thanks,

-M

Does it have a default configuration selection? Rom Editor can be told what displacement and injector size etc the bin is for, for calculating the resulting AFRs from the fuel maps etc.. maybe its just defaulting to defaults?

The default config is 370cc and Ca18 maf......I just was under the impression when you loaded the OEM address file.........then the tuned .bin ontop of that.....that the program is smart enough to see that the .bin is tuned for other specs (450cc and Zmaf in my case). I guess not, I guess I have to change those specs on a hex level then use the modded address file to make a new .bin?

I guess maybe I just dont realize what variables are stored where and how the program interacts with the info?

I've never used Live Edit.. but I imagine the file you are loading that was already tuned is already tuned, and Live Edit is assuming it isn't, and providing the ability to auto-change things for given tuning configurations. Is there a place in the setup to change the settings? In Rom Editor you can change it in Setup > Engine specification set up. It has displacement (exhaust quantity), cylinder number, and injector blast-off quantity (cc's). Rom Editor is a JDM program that has an engrish version, but its long since been abandoned... but it works, once you learn how to use it.

In Rom Editor when you change these settings it remembers them across runs of the program, but don't affect the tuning of the ECU directly as it has no auto adjust functions beyond replacing the VQ maps with maps for other MAF sensors. It only uses them for converting the data in the tables into AFR's and such so that you can view the data in a more human readable format.

A guy on the other board said to change the ".adr" file which is basically a .txt file that tells the program initially what engine you have. I opened it and sure enough it has the values that need changed....however when I do (with notepad) it saves it in a form that Live Edit cannot open. It changes the file from a "configuration" file (in windows explorer with a gold sprocket on the file type logo) to a regular .txt file.

Any ideas?

Open Explorer (not IE, Windows Explorer) and go to tools > folder options, click the view tab, and uncheck the 'hide extensions for known file types'. This way you can force it to save as the same filename, otherwise it hides the fact its tacking on .txt.. thats the most likely cause it would "change" the "file type".

You could also just rename it after the fact, but if you can't see the extension you can't do that either.
