Ummmm... yeah. I think so, or it was just a terribly poor attempt to convince us that he bought an S15.

Legalizing S15 in California is a posible thing. Ask Franz at jdmevolution.com, and I am not sure if he will legalized it for your own JDM car. But I know that you can buy a car from him and he will legalized it for you. I almost bought an RHD WRX STi Type RA back in 2002 for $24000 registered in california. This is the real thing no scams. he's located in orange county california. So thats for the info good luck!

No. No. No. What part of crash testing do you not understand. The S15 was never crash tested and unless someone is offering to wreck theirs, the S15 will never be legal anywhere in the US.

Hence, the right people, the right money for the right paperwork. I don't see a philanthropist doing this, so it would definitely take a combo of people with a passion for motorsports, the S15 and the correct amount of grip in the wallet to conduct the testing and some people who are federal govt paperwork/legal experts.

Since that J dude from the defunct Motorex really screwed people hard with coarse grinding paste in the booty, I doubt there is anybody willing to walk that path again and the DOT has a long memory. I wonder what happened to that guy?

I think you can make anything work if you've got the stuff to grease the skids. (Lots of money and good connections.) I think we really said alot of stuff this guy didn't want to hear though. LOL

Yep! It would take focus, a feasibility/market study, financial backing and an active consortium group of die-hard enthusiast/owners incorporated who are in it for the long haul. The objective would be for a group of select cars that have a huge fan base with the excess income who can afford to purchase these types of cars. Sounds snobbish, but a nice margin ROI is what is needed to be able to continue operations and to attract investors.

That would cover the crash test cars. If I had $100K USD to use to bribe someone, I would either just purchase an already registered, legal R33 GTR, an EVO 8/9, 2007 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500, a 1968/69 fastback Mustang or better yet, wait for the new GTR by putting that money down as pre-order. I got a feeling that once the new world standard GTR debuts in showrooms, the MSRP will just be a starting point. Word has it that GM is upgrading the C06 Z06 Corvette for another limited edition production Corvette supercar. I feel a battle coming along!

Yeah 100 grand is a little much for a 250hp car with neat looking headlights. LOL

Yeah, but you gotta think on the plus side. If you get that far and get the crash testing and other necessary paperwork cleared through the DOT, you get placed on that list of ok cars managed by the NHTSA. Motorex had that, but we learned a good lesson on how greed and cutting corners and short-changing clients will eventually lead to one's own demise. It didn't help matters in Japan that dirty money was also involved A few people I know that knew the guy said he was knee-deep in accounts payable to quite a few brokers, and since the banking institutions in Japan tend to shy away from chukohin/chuko jidosha (used parts/used cars) and hashiriya-based companies (aftermarket performance-based car), there's the local dirty money that one can tap into at a pretty high rate of interest. Skip payments to those guys and try disappearing, say sayonara to your chin-chin and tama-tama. Getting run through in the booty would be a welcome alternative to the type of slow, excruciatingly painful death some people would resort to.

Chris-

Nope. I am getting pretty tired of the promises and then I have to remind them because it makes me look stupid. If I were back home, this would not be an issue. It goes beyond that. I put money down on some stuff like windshields, half-cuts, rear seats, S15 dash. Nasser is going over next month to see WTF is going on. Sorry, bro.

Franz already have those crash test records and other CA requirements forms from his company name. NO worries!!! He's doing this since 2000. He was selling me the Type RA like you are buying a house all paper works are legal and stamp by CA authorities. If he dosn't have the car in his garage he can look around in Japan to find the car for you, He will send you pictures, detail, and description of the car. I am not sure if he still in school, last time I spoke with him, he's studying robotics in UCLA and in Japan as well. Who ever interested just give him a call.

Franz told me before the crash test, parts have to be replace & resource from a US parts or European parts if not available in the USA. Before he sells me the Type RA he told me, windshield, windows, bumper beams, doors, & other stuff have to be added or replace from a WRX USDM parts to able to drive it legal in CA. Since crash test parts are been replace from JDM to USDM parts that are made in Canada or US, and maybe Mexico. Thats why he have all the legal papers for you. If you are looking for an S15 I would think he will resource parts from europe since they have a strick crash test. Imagine autobahn, nurburgring & other high speed highway in europe they have to pass this test.

wasnt there some guy on this forum talking about trying to get sr20dets legalized? he was some guy working at like a DOT or EPA emissions center, and gave out smog certifications for grey market Lambos and Ferraris from the 70s and 80s. **** that never even had a comparable model in the US.

it clearly wont apply here, because authorities of any kind immediately question anything having to do with imported japanese cars, but it is intriguing to think that it might happen.

either way though, he aint gettin it legalized in CA. that being said, santa cruz has some dumb *** cops. if he never gets an exhaust, and avoids pulling up next to a cop, drives at night only, I doubt he will ever have a problem
