Okay, so, the other night my girlfriend and I were driving home from dinner in my 91 hatch. We were on one of the backroads I usually take and all of a sudden, there was a strong smell of gas and my KA was struggling to stay at 2500rpm and started clugging a bit. I pulled over, turned the engine off, got out and popped the hood. Everything looked okay, just smelled heavily like gas. It started up again, and I was able to baby it home.

Now, I've been working on it since yesterday morning, I got new NGK plugs, new plug wires, cleaned the MAF, checked the dizzy and am still checking things. The problem that I'm having now is that there's no spark. It will turn over, and I'm pretty sure gas is being pumped(Can smell it and was able to hear click from pump in the back).

My KA is stock minus exhaust, 170,xxx miles on it, and has NEVER had a reliablilty issue in the two and half years I've owned it.Any advice would be awesome. I have been using the search button, and am finding this and that, but I'm still not finding my answer.

check the coil... cuz if everything is new, u have to check the tings that lead up to the spark... and since the NGK plugs, new plug wires, cleaned the MAF there is only one more thing to check... the dist. and dist. components like to coil...

Sounds like something in the ignition system. You already started trouble shooting with the plugs and wires, so just trace your way all the way back to the distributor. Also check that the timing is set properly. Not a big chance that the chain jump a tooth but weird things happen sometimes.

i agree with this guy, check your coil's, did you get a check engine light at all? if so pull the code and itll lead you directly to where the problem is

I checked the distributor, replaced the cap and the rotor today and still nothing. I triple checked my timing and still no spark. And I didnt get a CEL at all. How do you know if the coil's bad? I've been searching and haven't gotten a definitive "bad or good" type test to do on it. Although, the coil did shock me earlier, so I don't know if that means it's bad. Also checked fuel lines and they're good, no leaks or damage to the hoses.thanks for all the responses btw!

I changed fuel filter, and tried starting it, it clugged and almost started(instead of just cranking over with no response). So, could it be the injectors?i also took a look at my fuse box by the battery, and there's a 30amp fuse missing for "ign coil-anti skid". Never had a fuse in it. Could that be the issue?

The fuse isn't the issue, we all take those out primarly so we don't have the anti-skid feature and your tires will light up... Doesn't do anything if you remove it though... Atleast nothing that you are describing. Check your injector lines make sure none are leaking. But it really doesn't seem that would be the issue. Did your exhaust sound lower? More of a rumbley kak noise? Could also be because when you replaced your wires you didn't hook them back into the right spots? Idk man, you will fix it though.

I just replacced my coilpack, and I'm still having no spark. The spark gets to the dizzy, but not past it into the plug wires. what would cause that sort of symptom?

You put the wires in the wrong places or the wires are just bad...

ok, so, I've cleaned the injectors, and I've gone through the FSM, and made sure my wires are in the right places, and the timings right. I took the dizzy out and checked to see if the injectors clicked and they do. So, there's spark, there's fuel, but I just cant figure out why its not starting. Also, the new NGK plugs are fouling up, and I've been cleaning them every few times I try to start it. I flashed the ecu and didnt get any problems from it. Any other idea's?
