i have a 95 240sx auto, and last night went i try to put the radio back, somehow the back of the radio housing touched some wires, and now the background light for the gauge cluster went out. And what's worse is, the taillight went out too!! so does the light for the shifter (where P, N, D would light up). All these lights should light up when you turn the headlight on.

The headlights still work, but i can't see the speedo and rev meter at night and it's dangerous to drive without taillights at night. So my question is, do anyone know which harness or wire i messed up? I know it's definitely at the back of the radio area, since that's what i accidently touched. I suspect something is loose.

thanks

how can i check exactly which wire / fuse? I heard there are two fuse boxes, one under the hood, and one under dash. Is it a trial and error? because i don't have any new fuse laying around, so i'd have to buy them.

Fuse box in the kick panel to drivers left. Inside the lid should be labels identifying everything....

you can look at a fuse and tell if its blown just need to take it out or get a test light. doesnt sound like you know how to use one though

Very common problem. Fuse box is in the driver kicker panel in a S13. Not sure bout s14. First take out the stereo and WRAP UP ALL THE WIRES!!! You left one unwrapped and its grounding. once you clean it all up, replace the fuse.

yes, most likely that's the problem. the 2 wires (from the same wire, but split) are striped, where you can see the metal inside. Maybe that touched the metal inside the radiohousing.

How can i tell if it's a blown fuse? i can try to replace it one by one, but if i can tell then maybe it's easier.

also, besides dealers, where can i find those fuses? maybe autozone might have it?

The fuse that's blown will have a humped wire in it that will be melted in the middle. Check the 3rd down on the right first. You can get the fuses at Walmart,autozone,advanced..you name it. If you don't have the plastic pulling tool ,just use a small needle nosed plier.

Thanks all for your help! Found the blown fuse and replaced it with no problem. Since i didin't even have the panel cover, it was hard to tell with one is for which. But after taken them out one by one, finally found it.

No problem..Glad you got it fixed. No 3 is the one that always blows on me when I ground the radio or interior lighting accidentally .I've done that twice..then I put and inline fuse in so the interior light wouldn't blow it again.

ohhh and heres the best part when the lights are off the clock light is on and when I turn the lights on it turns off anyone have any idea.....and trust me I searched and well everyone seems to fix theirs just replacing the fuses. and trust me I checked my fuses like 4 times just to make shure they where all good.

did you check out the TCU?

when robbers stole my radio, they left the wires dangling...and one wire touched another... zap!

i pulled out my TCU, verified that a section of it blew out like a fuse... got some solder & closed the circuit & whallah! this was over 6 years now & it's still working great
