I've never seen a sensor plug like this (and it's rather difficult to fully see since it resides on the rear of the cylinder head). Can anybody tell me how to get this thing off?

I'm talking about the driver's side sensor, btw.

For future reference, I figured it out.

You would think that the button on this plug would need to be pressed into the connector like every other damn connector ever manufactured, but you'd be wrong. Instead of pressing into the connector, press downwards (relative to the car) toward the cam sensor. The botton will slide down and release the cam sensor plug. It may take some effort as these things are stuck on there pretty snugly, but you shouldn't have to use any hand tools.

Bringing this back from the dead with a helpful solution...

The tab that you need to push down is green. I wrestled with it for about 30 minutes before my finger tips started to hurt.

I got a pair of blunt nose pliers, turned them so the tips were perpendicular to the green tab, pushed down on them and then pulled off the socket with my free hand.

A word of warning: It's MUCH easier to remove the clip if the sensor is still bolted in. Be careful though, don't press too hard as you might break the clip. Judging from the amount of wiring that goes into this harness, it will be expensive and time consuming to replace it.

Patience is key.
