Well a few things. My wife is looking for new jobs and we are looking at relocating. A lot of the places she is applying, and the one job she really hopes to get, are in California. Now, I love my wife and I will go to CA with her, however I don't know if my plans for my Z can come with me.

I have done a lot of research and came up with a rough plan for where I want to take my Z31. Included in that was a VQ35 swap. I realize how hard this will be and I realize how much fabrication will be involved. What I do not know is if I will legally be able to do this if we move to CA. I imagine the emissions would be lower on a VQ35 than a single cam VG from 1987, but I don't know if that is enough. I don't mind hooking up the emissions from the VQ either. It's going to double my HP and improve fuel economy even in stock trim.

So California, can i still do it?

As long as you put the proper emissions stuff you'll be golden. You'll have to go to a smog ref and have them go through it with a fine toothed comb. It's a bit of a pain, but certainly doable. You can go talk to them before you are done to get some guidance on what they are going to be looking for too.
