i just recently swapped in my dohc engine and today when i was turning the key to the "on" position so the fuel pump will pump some fuel into the system in hopes of starting the car. well after several pumps i heard water drops in the engine bay, and to my surprise a HUGE amount of fuel was leaking out through the CYLINDER. it just kept on flowing out of the 4th cylinder, first out of the part where the headers and downpipe connected. then i unbolted the headers, and yep, it was pouring right out of the exhaust manifold holes, right from the cylinders. i then took a 27 mm wrench and manually turned the engine, and more fuel started pouring out from the other cylinders as well. i guess that eliminates any injector issues.

me and my friend thought it could be some electrical issues where the harness is sending too much power to the injectors, causing them to stay engaged? or is there something i forgot to install when installing the fuel rail? cuz i mean, it's pretty unlikely for all four injectors to be stuck open. what if it's a bad fuel rail? could it be? someone help please!!

if it's just cylinder 4, it's most likely a stuck open injector. Replace that injector. Then with the new injector in place, check your fuel pressure.

if you swapped in a ka24de or an sr20 you might have a bad injector oring.unbolt the fuel rail from the intake manifold and unplug the electrical connectors to the injectors but leave all of the fuel lines hooked up. then raise the fuel rail up so that you can see the area that plugs into the grommets on the intake manifold and have someone turn the key on to the run position and see where the leak is coming from.there shouldn't be any spray coming from the end of the pintle because the injector isn't getting power. if there is spray coming from the end of the injector pintle, then the injector is stuck open and needs to be replaced.if the fuel is leaking around the injector pintle between it and the injector pocket, then that is an oring leak. remove the injector from the pocket by removing the 2 screws and the aluminum cap and pull the injector from the pocket and replace the 2 orings.

btw, after all this is fixed, remove the spark plugs and clean out the fuel from the cylinders.then, CHANGE THE OIL BEFORE RUNNING THE ENGINE.you will ruin the engine bearings by running the engine with fuel saturated oil.

get a noid light to see if the injectors are reciving power when you turn the key, if they are, that means they are being held open.

somthing to keepin mind.....i would not work on that car at all without a fire extinguisher within easy reach, remeber that connectors, batterys, and about any other electrical contact can spark. with that much fuel around, it could get ugly quick.

so what if they ARE stuck open, what would cause that and how could i fix it? i think they are receiving power when i turn the key to on, but they're supposed to right?

i tried replacing the 4th injector but it didnt make a difference. they all have the same effect, so i think there's a bigger problem going on here. later on today im gonna try and tkae off the fuel rail with the fuel hoses still on and turn on the fuel pump to see where it leaks.

could anyone answer my question above about the injectors stuck open? thanks for all the help everyone!

Poor quality fuel can lead to mineral deposits building up on the injectors, which can restrict the movement of the needle. It could also be not receiving the proper signal from the ECU, telling the injector to be open at all times.

If it's the first case, you fix it by buying new injectors, I would recommend the classifieds on this board or somewhere that sells remanufactured parts.

If not, get a noid light and test for proper injector pulse. If the light is on all the time, something's wrong.

haha thank you everyone for the help. me and a friend finally fixed it. it turns out that am o-ring on one of the injectors is on crooked, leaving a big hole in the fuel rail that leaks fuel constantly. i got another fuel rail with good injectors and it fixed the problem. thanks for the help everyone!
