I am new to the forum but not new to Nissan. I have just aquired a 1977 280z and I am having a hard time getting it running. It’s been sitting for 8 years and they said it was running when they shut it down due to a reverse issue. I would like to take it to some one, does anyone have any suggestion for the Central Florida area?

A few things to check:

-Does it turn over?

-Is it getting spark? Pull the plugs and check.

-Is it getting clean fuel? Fuel that has been sitting a while can thicken and clog everything up. I am not sure if Florida had the ethanol mandates 8 years ago, but that can cause further corrosion, break down old fuel lines, attract water, etc. This is what I would assume the issue is.

If the car checks out on those three things, it should start. Getting it running right is another matter.

I have dropped the tank, cleaned and treated it. Replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, all six injectors, fuel pressure regulator. Replaced six plugs and we are getting spark. The cold start valve is working. Cleaned the distributor button. I'm stuck.

Also, it does turn over. I have gotten it to idle and it has seemed to have blown out some of the carbon but now it's being stubborn.

Possibly one of your temperature sensors? (Cylinder Head Temp. Sensor?) I'm pretty sure when those start to go bad, the idle / running abilities of the car start to get punished.

Okay, I'll try that. Thanks,
