Post

I have a 1991 Nissan D21 4-cyl Pickup. I am somewhat of a novice with automotive so any help would be appreciated.

Just the other day I started up the truck in the morning and the entire engine started rocking... after it warmed slightly it went away. The last couple of days it hasnt gone away. No power on acceleration and stutters pretty bad. About 3 years ago I had put new plug wires and Iridium Plugs in myself and has been running fine.

What would be the first thing I should try? I am not sure how to do an ignition test... I am guessing a new distributor/rotor might be a cheap place to start but have never actually replaced/installed them. Is there a guide or instructions on here somewhere that might help with that?

Thanks for any info.

Check for misfires spark then fuel. I believe this is a KA24E or DE. Wear a glove and unplug a single spark plug wire one at a time then plug them in. If it stumbles or the sound change move on (meaning it was working you caused a misfire unplugging it, plug it back in all is well). If there is no change then that is your miss. You can do the same with fuel injectors too.

If you find the miss then you know what you need. Chances are it needs a good tune up. Plugs, wires, car, rotor, and a timing setting.
