When getting new rotors is it wise to resurface them?? I just bought some new 300zx rotors so i can finally put my front 5 lug hubs from ichiba and put my calipers on and when i went to put the caliper on it didnt want to go on for anything. I took out the shims and then slide them in tried it on the other caliper and it will still not go on. A friend was saying that you should resurface them. Will that work and should you resurface them when you get them new???

First of all, you did match the rotor size to the calipers right? 26mm calipers to 26mm rotors or 30mm calipers to 30mm rotors. Secondly, assuming you do have a matched set, the pistons were retracted on both sides? I vaguely remember how difficult it was when I first replaced my rotors, but I do remember one pair of pistons needed a hair more compressing, then the calipers went on smoothly. Lastly, new rotors should be cut, shiny and ready to go out of the box. Always check the obvious first and good luck.

yeah there 30mm calipers with 30mm rotors or the rotors should be. I ordered 91 TT rotors from autozone. Wanted to get Brembos but didnt have the cash right now and the ones from autozone were 46 bucks for both. As far as them being in good shape out the box they were. At this point i was taking my friends advice and was on my way to napa to resurface them but while i was driving over there i stoped by my moms house to double check them. At this point i saw that the pistons needed to be pushed back more so i went ahead and did that and then put the caliper on the rotor and it STILL didnt go on. I decided to take out the shims and then after that they went on. I went back to my friends shop to do the same on the other caliper ( push pistons back, take shims out) i put it on the rotor again and again it STILL didnt go on. What i dont get is why did the other caliper go on but not the other caliper. Either way its frusterating me so i ill wait till tomorrow to work on again.

Oh and i left out another part that had been done. I have Project Mu B Force pads and whether its safe or not we really had no other option but we have even sanded down some of the pad just to try and get the caliper on and still no luck.

Well, at this point you may want to bust out the measuring tape. It is possible the pads may have more or less "meat" from one maker to another. You are sure the calipers are 30mm?

Yeah im sure im having a friend go over them and double check. Im thinking that the pad had alot of meat on it also but after we sanded some down it still didnt slip on, who knows all i know is that they need to go on tomorrow. Thanks for the input appreciate it.

Break out the measuring tape and double check you have the correct calipers. They give measurements for the 30mm and 26mm calipers in the pictures.

Yeah thats were i went to check which calipers were what. I figured out what it was. From the pics that impornut shows the rotor channel on my passenger caliper is a little narower then what it should be on both sides, thats why my rotor isnt sliding in properly. Why this is i dont know. I bought these used from some one on here through classifieds and then rebuilt them. Missed nothing putting all seals and what not when we put them back together so nothing is missing. O rings between the calipers are on so i dont know what would make it that much narower not to allow the rotor to slide in. Only choice is to sand some material off the rotor channel so i can finally slide my rotor on and mount them on my car. Any other suggestions is appreciated and welcomed. Thanks guys.

Sounds like you got one 30mm and one 26mm calipers. I'm not sure if it's okay to sand 26mm caliper down, so it can take 30mm rotor. I don't think you will have good balance when braking. You might be better off if you can find another 30mm for the passenger side. You should have measured them when you got them. That's what I did as soon as I opened the box.
