My simple question: how do i connect my plug that tells the fog lights to turn on (when i press the fog light button in my car) to my hid conversion kit?

Its a DDM Tuning H3 55w 8000k w/ a relay harness.

Also if there is a write up on how to install an HID conversion kit for z32 fogs, please do direct me to it and sorry for not finding it before posting! (I did search but found nothing.)

if it's not working, try reversing the polarity of the connections (take what you think is positive and switch it with negative) and see if that solves the issue. That's usually the problem with HID kits.

I realized the reverse polarity thing a while back while surfin the web for answers. does that just mean you take your factory plug that connects to the bulb wiring and switch it to plug in the opposite way? Im just confused about which wires i need to reverse to achieve reverse polarity

^Yes. That's precisely what to do. The wires that connect to the stock harness need to be switched around. If that's not the issue, you might need to run a relay, as the stock fogs aren't meant for the kind of current draw that HID's demand.

Okay thanks. Il go back and make sure I've done that correctly. Also I am using a harness, so that should not be an issue.

Yes, but the aftermarket harness is using the stock harness, correct? The STOCK harness isn't meant for high current draw like HID's need.

Well the aftermarket harness has things that connect straight to the positive and negitive terminal of the battery, so i assumed that the power draw would be coming only from there, but im not sure if thats how it works. do you think i need to replace the entire stock wire that connects to my bulbs?

No, what you described is a relay kit (which most people don't buy; they like plug and play).

Here's a general overview of how the kit should work: The kit will be receiving constant power from the battery, and opening the circuit at the relay. It will then receive an "on" signal from the stock harness when you turn the fogs on. (Mind you, the fogs only turn on when the low beams are on. No other configuration.) The "on" signal tell the relay to close the circuit and supply power to the ballast, supplying power to the bulb. Are you sure you have a good ground? Clean connections are a must with HID's. If all else fails, bust out a multimeter and measure voltage.

ohhhhh crap. i guess i had my terminology all messed up! so from the relay, the 2 ring terminals, one is supposed to go to the positive side of the battery, and one is grounded? or does one go positive and one go negative...this may be where i made the mistake.

You can ground one, but it's the same as connecting to the negative side of the battery. The negative side of the battery, if you look closely, is directly connected to the firewall directly behind the battery, then to the transmission. So grounding it to the car would be the same as connecting it to the negative side of the battery.

You have considered the possibility that they sent you a crap kit, haven't you?

lol no actually. ddm is usually quality. but its not impossible, and it seems like that may be the only explanation. im just gunna take it to the local shop soon...let them determine whats up

I've heard many cases where DDM has sent bad bulbs. Check Z32 General out. There's a thread on the first page about HIDs, and page 3 of that thread alone has 2 people that got bad bulbs from DDM.
