you can get a clutch pedel from your local junk yard....... and a turbo motorcan work without an intercooler, but it'll run really hot.....you prob don't won't to use the stock radiator, unless the car came with a koyo aluminumradiator.. you can go to tigerjapanese.com and find any motor you want at a great price too..

Please think before you post next time.

Running a turbo motor without an intercooler is about as dumb as you can get. You can do it, but you will blow it up in short time. You might as well just go ahead and strap some TNT to the block and get it over with quicker.

You can use the stock radiator and be fine. I, as well as a hojillion other swappers, have ran stock radiators successfully for long term. Unless you're doing track days in SoCal or other hot states, a Koyo isn't necessary. For more temperate climates, the stock core works just fine.

Lastly, to the OP. Please do some research. It isn't really that hard to go to some websites listed in our FAQ, as well as do some searching in the archives here at NICO to find what you do and don't need.

are you retarded? turbo motors run better when they're hot...he has 3k to spend, I'm staying in his price range....

hijacker,,,,,,,,it does not damage to the motor. my friends mirage with a 4g93t is runing 22psi no intercooler, and it's been that way for a year..so next time think before you post,, you can do some research.... it's not that hard.

A hot intake charge will cause pre-ignition aka knock. This is even more so in turbo cars because the intake is pressurized and that much hotter. Not to mention that this is a stock engine he is gonna be buying which he wants to last.

Your friends mirage if it really is runnin 22lbs with no intercooler it probly has a built engine, very retarded timing(no pun), water/meth injection, and is running super high octane.

If you could explain why turbos run better hot please tell us

Actually you cannot run one without an intercooler. Do some research on the purpose of an intercooler, their not made as luxory items or to look "cool" their built for a reason. Do the research on how a turbo generates air. Theirs more to it besides building up air from the turbine. Things happen to the air being created.

And to the OP, 2nd post, try doing some research, its been asked millions of times.

it's the same with how, in the winter you let your car warm up before you drive it..........well turbo's are more responsive with heat....you don't see an exhaust manifold glowing blue,,,,no it's red,, as in heat......it's not like it's bad for the car,,,,,and if you want to up the anny,,,, then a fmic or nitrous injection to the motor comes into play...

I don't even know why your giving me crap about how turbo motors can run without an intercooler.....and as far as my friends mirage,,,it wasn't built, it's being built now....he spun a rod bearing...

1990 240sx: s13 sr20det, gt28rs, fmic, manual boost controller/gauge,xtd stage 3 clutch, 11 lb flywheel, custom intercooler piping, short throw shift kit, apexi saf2,koyo radiator, electronic radiator fans,(on a switch) ssq bov, walbro fuel pump, some more little cookies here and there but it's pointless to post....... the only reason I have this car is cause I inherited it when my bro died.

(duffman1278), I'm fully aware on how a turbo/intercooler works..but if you don't have a fmic, you can run a hot pipe from the turbo straight to the intake mani....no intercooler required... it'd be nice for every turbo car to have one,,,,,and later on in higher boost you'll need one....but the dude is just doing a swap,,,,he'll eventually get one.

Don't want to get too off topic, but I do realize in reality, you can run a pipe straight from your turbo to your intake manifold, but the air being released from your turbo is compressed, and the more you compress air, the hotter gets, this can lead to detonation which you don't want.

To the OP, I would really recommend getting one, even a SMIC.

When the engine is taking in all that hot compressed air it works less efficient and makes less HP. Intercooler= more power, capabilities, cools the air. hummmm could that be why NA guys use COLD AIR INTAKES????

Go with an intercooler. Whether it's a SMIC or a FMIC. There's a reason why these turbo motors come from the factory with an intercooler.

(duffman1278), for all the compressed air,,,,,,that's what you have a bov for.

The blow off valve is there to vent back pressure when you close the throttle plate off. It keeps compressure surge from destroying your compressor wheel on your turbo.

Wow, a lot of misinformation here. I don't know where you're getting your information, but it sounds really ghetto fabbed up info. Most people here are trying to tell the OP the right way to do things.

all I'm say'n is, a turbo motor can work without an intercooler. that's all I'm say'n....everybody else turned it into something it's not........

to the op, if you don't have the money for an intercooler, don't freak out about it, your car will not blow up or anything...

The sr isn't tuned to run without an intercooler and since it doesn't have intake temp sensor the ecu will think it needs more fuel than it does b/c it thinks the air is colder and will have to rely on the o2 sensor to tell its bad mixture. Thats no good b/c the o2 sensor sends a signal after combustion takes place instead of the maf which signals before so the ecu can predict how much fuel/ignition timing. The maf still works fine but the ecu uses a prerendered fuel map to interperet the maf signal, without an intercooler those numbrs will be off. In other words the ecu won't know its running bad until after it happens and it'll have to guesstimate for the next revolution instead of being dead on accurate.

You should keep your opinion to yourself because while it may be true its just a stupid way of doing things. I can take my upper radiator hose and loop it to the lower inlet eliminating the radiator, sure the car will run fine but there might be a problem in the future, see my point?

O.P. most swaps come with a sidemount--problem solved.

it's not an opinion, it's a fact....ALL I AM SAYING IS TURBO MOTOR'S CAN RUN WITHOUT AN INTERCOOLER, I didn't say,,,,,,yeah man, do a swap run without an intercooler and never get one. I said if you don't have the money, a couple of weeks or so won't hurt the car......(if the swap didn't come with one).............this isn't making any sense,,,why is everyone arguing about intercoolers...?

everyone else is in agreement your the one arguing. You are telling somebody to do something that could potentially damage their engine(even if its without one for a short while). It may very well run fine but like I said there's an increased potential of failure and if your on a budget you'd want to protect those couple of thousand you just spent. If don't have an intercooler don't drive it...why run the risk?

You're telling him to run the SR without an intercooler. This is BAD information.

If you don't have the money for one just don't drive the car.. PERIOD. It's a bad idea to give out that kind of advise. Just because you technically could run a turbo motor without an intercooler doesn't mean you should.

who said they can't be run without an intercooler? It's been stated that it's possible, just not recommended as it's a fast ticket to meltdown.

This argument stops now
