Ok Guys, New to the Z world. From 2005 - 2007 what should I get, look for and avoid? I'm looking for a low mile SILVER touring or grand touring. Thanks for any help in advance...

A 06-07 Silver Grand Touring with VDC and TCS (Traction Control and Dynamic Control)0 is well worth it my opinion. Grand will have nav, bluetooth, and bigger wheels in back, give a broader stance. 18x9 rim in front and 19x10 in rear. 6spd is whole buch of fun with 300 hp. Make sure you have NO 2 seater issues cause space is limited. Think of buying the car by itself, unless you have a money tree in the back yard do not be concerned with turbos, superchargers, and mods now, the car is tested and fun as it comes. Good luck let us know what you find.

Thanks. I'm OK with coupes as I just sold my 2007 corvette. Tired of vettes and thought I'd give Zs a try. Any other advice out there?

Smoke pretty much nailed it... The trunk in the Z is nothing like the Vette... If you plan on actually driving the car everyday and making it a part of your life, I suggest the automatic transmission. The manual transmission is fun, but a pain in traffic or in city driving. Plus, there's known issues with the clutch and transmission, and looking down the road with already high maintenance expenses adding drivetrain components is such a pain. Ya, it's covered under warranty (sorta)...but the automatic is also covered under warranty...

I think the auto is worth it just to get rid of that stupid "normal" rattling..

Pretty good advise so far. If your chossing between 06-07, go 07. You may be one of the unlucky ones to get an 06 w/ oil consumption problem. If you can, go w/ a new z. You may get one that somebody had to much fun w/, if you know what i mean. And since you owned a vette, you will be dissapointed in the power from what you had before. So my suggestion is to by an 03 track model used (you'll save a lot) and put a turbo on it. It will then live up to your power needs from what you previously owned, cost you less, and give you more $ to do some little things to personalize it yourself. FYI. I'm not sure yet, but i may be selling my 05' track z / yellow, beautiful bodykit/ vortech supercharger/stillen exhaust, brembos, gauges, etc. Took to track once to see what it would do. Best time out of 5 runs. Spun 1st, part of second, and still pulled down a 12.9 @ 111mph. The car has 18k mnile on it. 7k are from this year alone from driving to car shows at columbus and other far areas. Car is babied despite the track day. It has the original rays light weight rims that were discontinued after late 05. This wasn't supposed to be a sales pitch, but i'll let her go to a good home. I will also let all the other parts go w/ her. Brand new Darton sleeves, jwt cams, jwt springs, arp main studs, copper gaskets, clean bare block for sleeves. 2 sets heads, one bare, one complete/finished, no cams installed. PM me if interested. Anybody!

The main difference between the 2 is that the 06 had 300hp and in 07 they went to 306 hp with twin intakes and some better internals. If you can afford it go with the 07.

Thanks for the great input so far.. The choice is between a 2005 Silver Touring for $23,500 (has only 10,000 miles driven by a lady in her 50's) and a 2007 White Touring for $26,200 (Has 14,000 miles driven by a younger lady) - HELP! I sold my vette as I wanted something cheaper but fun so I want to spend as little as possible.

If you are willing to change colors, I need to sell mine as I am starting to suffer from arthritis (and I'm not that old!!!)

2004 red (redline color) touring edition, 6-speed, touchscreen DVD/bluetooth/iPod capable. New Michelins. Still turns heads.

Go with the white one beings you know know the specs between the two. Although my boy dj nailed it on the head once you sit in the lil spaceship your gonna wanna go all out which is pretty much everything the forum relates to one way or anther. Good luck I have heard more issues regarding a 05 than the 07 , plus you get some warranty.

I just did the entire country for what your about to or did undertake. I found that you can get dealer hold back on all models and a little over invoice for the 07'. The caveat to this is limited colors. The silver is the one you find out there the most. Then followed by Red as a choice. Black, I found 4 left in the whole USA for 07' (The week before christmas) If you looking for the roadster- you have the choice of anything in 07'. The good part of buying a 07' is that you have the warranty for the "extra" year. Which is almost five year out from when they are introduced. In the auto industry that is usually the cost break when parts become substantially less. The other factor is that miles will be less while your behind a year. Though, this is my second "Z". I have had everything except a vette, from a Porsche to a Supra and others. The "Z" will treat you like you treat it - that is very true for them I found. If your hard on it - things are going to wear quickly. If your occasionally giving it a work-out it stands up better then anything around. (can't say that for a supra). The old 1987 "Z" I had cost a grand total of $3100 in repair for 15 years- - and I kept it stock its whole life (190K miles). I had to change the timing belt was the largest thing. Though, be kind of weary of the 15K lease cars, one never knows how a fellow human will treat the last few thousands miles on a car they have no commitment too. I did find a large group of 2005 base that were selling for 18-20K. But Z's hold the value for a reason, they are just solid good cars that do exactly waht is expected of them at anytime.
