If its the stock motor.
you should get a t3/t04 top mount turbo.
presuming he can keep himself busy with the rest of the build.
he'll also need other parts like. Cams, Fuel Injectors, an ECU, and possibly an engine rebuild. rods pistons, bearings, valves, springs.
forget that for now. he'll get by/
lets assunme eventually he will do those things (otherwise his block will strain and get damaged from the added turbo pressure)
start with a a GARRETT. t3/t04 hybrid turbo.compressor A/R of .64 (for drifting and street driving) or .84 (for drag and higher top speed.
.64 is more fun.
there are a lot of shops that rebuild and build custom garrett turbos. contact one of them. and tell them what your application. a KA motor is a 2.4L? correct me if I am wrong. readers - with dual over head cams and 16 valves... I think. (im an Sr cat) from a 240sx, naturally.
and you should be set. start with these guys.
these are small shops that rebuild turbos. call them and talk with them over the phone. don't spend more then 450$ for a great t3 Garrett turbo.
only buy garrett. they are the standard. they made turbos for nissan for decades.
ask for ball bearings turbos - they are better and provide less friction then journal bearings... but they can be rebuilt ball bearing turbos cant.
