well ever since i got back up to virginia like 4 or 5 weeks ago, my car (G35 Coupe 5AT) has been making this squeaking sound when it idles, but there is no squeaking past 1100 rpm's. This has never happened before, and then just randomly it starts making this noise. Now, everything else with the car is fine. The ride is still great and nothing else seems wrong. So i take it to the nissan dealership (there is no infiniti here where i'm at) and i notice that the sound stopped. But, i still take it to get checked. The service department guy comes back to me and tells me that they checked belts/pulleys/ and everything else and they heard no squeaking. They rev'ed it up and down and let it idle and still heard no squeaking. Now what he told me is that there is some kind of moisture getting in there some how and that's causing the squeaking. So after a couple of days, the squeaking comes back, and its ironic because i decide to take my car to the dealership, and as soon as i get to the dealership; the noise stops!

The guy that works at the service department probably thinks i'm retarted because i keep claiming there is a sound, when him and a couple other people don't hear a thing, lol i hope i'm not going crazy...

Is the problem really moisture? what can i do to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

It sounds like a belt. Sometimes with a crapy belts you've got squeaking. It usually squeking when it idles and cold start. It can be your tensioner also. Let them figure it out. They'll find out. Till you can enjoy the loaner.

It's Murphy's law kid! I'm certain that our cars have "spirits"... next time it starts squeaking, threaten your car with taking it to the dealer and it will stop... I used to carry a hammer in the trunk of my 4WS Prelude... everytime it would act up, I'd open the hood and threaten to hit it with a hammer... the problem would usually go away! Try that or a freakin excorsism! Your car is laughing at you...

Seriously, it sounds like a belt... maybe the alternator belt? may be time to replace the belts...

Good luck!Dave

belts usually scream or whine. Is it coming from the engine area or the rear? Do you have a stock exhaust system? sometimes when you put on an aftermarket exhaust stuff can rub.

nope its comin from the engine... i had friend who has a 240 hatch look at it, and he's seen a lot of VQ's and he's pretty much stumped... He said there could be dirt somewhere...

The dealership opens back on monday, so i'm gonna swing by after class...

well, i took it back to the nissan dealership and the sound was in full effect and the guy at the service department heard it and guessed that it was a pulley somewhere. I have an appointment at 1:30pm thursday to get a closer look taken at it and have it fixed. I have no idea how this problem came about, maybe it's just bad luck...

but yeah, i'll keep you folks posted on it n' such...

Glad that the sound was replicated at the dealership...nothing like bringing the car in and it not doing what it normally does!

Its likely one of the the idler tension pulleys. My guess would be the AC one.
