i have a 1989 240 sx. i bought it about a week ago. the power windows will not go up. i have taken the drivers side door apart and hooked up the motor to a cordless drill battery, revesed the polarity and the motor works both ways. i have found that some people have had to replace the power amp. so that is the first thing on my mind. the swich tests fine. the dealership want $125 for a new one. the junk yards don't know what i am talking about. now there are a few question that i have. 1st how do you test the power amp. 2nd can you rebuild it. 3rd can you bypass it. last and most least can i change it from power to manuel.thanks in advance for any and all help i can get.

Ignore the tool at the junk yard and get the part yourself. If they want more than five bucks for it, slap them or go elsewhere. Unless you already know what you're doing, I'd suggest that it might be easier for you to just replace the amp and see what happens. If the motor and switch tested fine, it really has to be either the amp or a bad connection somewhere.

To be perfectly honest with you, I'm being lazy right now and I don't feel like looking up the wiring diagram and typing out how to diagnose it. You might find something on it somewhere if you search the board, or perhaps someone else who isn't lazy will come along to help you further.
