My husband passed away leaving me with a garage full of parts and his car completely torn apart because he had blown the engine and was in the middle of replacing it and other modifications. I took all the parts and the car to a Z shop (the one he always used, so they knew what he wanted) and had the car put back together.

It has test pipes and I can not get it smogged. I live in California, what is the best way to go about getting it smogged? I assume I will need to have the test pipes removed and cats put on? If so what should I get to keep as much performance as possible? It's a 1994 300zx twin turbo.

Well, if it's modified, you most likely don't have an EGR system either, which is also a necessary emissions system in California as well. Good thing about EGR is most people won't know where to look for it in the first place, so you'll probably be good in that aspect.

As far as the test pipes themselves, the easiest way would be to source some OEM cats, swap them in for emissions, and swap them back out afterwards. Otherwise, it's getting harder and harder to find shady shops in CA who will pass you for a little under the table cash, since the government there is so broke and is imposing such severe penalties for even the slightest violation of any laws.

Sorry for your loss. Welcome to NICO. We'll be here for any questions you may have.

yeah shady shops are expensive now days. I checked around it will be $300-350 at that price I'll definatly look for cats to have switch in. I honestly don't know what all is modified on the car, but I'm going to call the shop that put it back togehter and get all the information they have. Thank you for the welcome and response.
