I am a new owner of a 1995 infinity Q45a. I am completly dumb founded by everything on this car. I know nothing about it and have a hard time trying to figure it out.I have an alldata.com account so I can do the work on this car myself, but find it hard to figure it out. The car was badly taken care of and the suspension is all messed up. The fluid for it hasnt been in it for 6 months that I have own the car. I drive it sometimes just to keep the car from just sitting in my garage and thats just down the street and back. It has a 173,000 on it and still runs strong but I can tell it has problems. My slip light is on and tcs light too. My check engine light comes on after the car has been driven for 10-15 miles. The car came with no manual or anything.Since I have found this websit I have learned somethings but nothing really about machanic issues or how too's. At first I was told that is was air ride and then found out one day that it takes a type a fluid when I changed the spark plugs. I have really no money to pay someone to fix it and would like to do it myself. I am bright and can understand most things and I have always done my own work so any help or advise to what a poor man can do to fix my car to what its supposed to be like is very appreciated. I was told by someone that if I jack the car up and let the tires hang freely that it will cause major problems to the suspension?(not that it doesn't have them now)

well, have you checked the CEL codes to see what they say?

I'm going to move this thread to the Q section. You should get better responses there.
And welcome to NICO!

:welcome: to NICO!

It sounds like you have a HUGE project ahead. Even doing your own work, you're in for thousands in parts. The factory service manual is available at www.nicoclub.com/FSM/ and will tell you a lot of what you need to know.

You can eliminate the active suspension issues completely by removing it and converting to a standard suspension. If you have a pull-a-part style salvage yard nearby that's your best bet for affordable parts to convert the suspension.

yes I am aware of the money its going to take but that is okay. It is something I will do gradually over years so Im good.

papasmurf2k3, I havent done that yet, but will soon. I am just thinking to take it to the infinity dealer ship to have a complet diaognotics done on the car so I will know whats wrong with everything. Have them print it so I can just go down the list of things untill its done, and at the same time up grade things.

Q451990(heath), hello and I have been thinking about doing that but wounder how it will handle? I have heard so much on the suspension when its working that I dont know if transfering it to normal shock, struts is better. I do know its going to be a pain but hey handleing and ride is what I want.

hey lino. thanks for the links I really need them. its a drag to get on the computer much, so bussy dureing the day. But I will check out everything and I have been taking notes. But got a question. I was told that if I was to jack up my Q45a for any reason that I could not let the wheels hang freely that I had to jack the car up under the wheel hub so it jacks the car up by the wheels and not by the frame. and if I didnt it would blow the seals out on the suspinsion. Is this true? or can any one answer that Q? Also my car was broken into and stereo was stolen and when the theft took out the stereo he also cut the wires to the a/c controll modual and took the modual too. So I been hunting junk yards and was releived to find one that had a crap load of infinties found modual and wire harness hooked everything up and still no cold air.compressor comes on and it has plenty of coolent in the a/c system so what else could cause it not to get cold? sorry to write so much just havent been on in a min sorry later chris

Watch out for broken air mix door hinge stuck in full heat position.

We once had a new owner of an active car for inspection. The electrical and mechanical estimate was $11,300 [5 years ago].............good luck in junk yards and ebay.

hey thanks for the info. But here is the deal. The heater and a/c dont work. the a/c contol unit that I have in my car isnt the one that came with the car.My car got broken into and when they stole the radio the took the a/c contol unit with it(you know how it conects to the radio). And when the took that they cut the wiring harness going to the a/c unit instead of unplugging it. So I hunted the junk yards till I found a 1995 Q45 and I got the a/c control unit and then cut about a foot or more of the wiring harness that was conected to it. I then wired it to my wireing harness, The colored wires where the same so I just match them and used wire connecters then taped everything up. Well when I plugged the battery up and started car I turned on the a/c contol unit and it came on it was working and I took it through the settings feet, dash etc etc.but the whole time it never got cold. So I tried it with the temp up to see if it would get hot. Well it didnt get hot or cold. So I checked to see if compressor was comeing on, yes it does well then I thought if I recharged the freon(refrigreant,r12 or what ever)but it wouldnt take and the guy at napa said it was full it wont take more. So thats the deal. Would the heater air mix door hing cause it to not work hot or cold or do I have something wrong with the unit I put in or my car. So any advise is needed on what is causeing it to not get cold or hot or what I should do. Thanks and sorry for the book I wrote. chris
