Raven,
Your Infiniti is an electronic animal. It has almost as many computers as the space shuttle. As such, Infiniti designed it to be troubleshot using an elctronic interface and designed it factory service manual around having the necessary equipment - called a Consult II AND using the FSM step by step.
The fact that your Nissan service guy could not find the problem indicates he didn't have one or both. "Certified" means he received factory training and demonstrated his competence on the equipment needed to service these machines.
Unfortunately, the electronics oriented troubleshooting differs from classical auto troubleshooting about as much as variable valve timing on our Q's compared to a small block Chevy. Not all mechanics makes the transition.
I was an airborne electronics technician in the Air Force during the transition to built in test equipment. I can tell you from experience, you can do a lot of troubleshooting relying on practical experience. But for the really tricky stuff, you pulled out the book and plodded through it step by step. Same here.
