Since it is cold outside and I can't do much to my car I'm going to ask questions now so I have a good idea of what I'm doing. Now on to the questions.

1. I am going to swap the DOHC head on to my SOHC motor. I have the head, but its in pieces because I took it apart wanting to gain experience and learn about it. So now I have a problem, I need to put it back together, but I don't now how to get the timing right. I never touched any of the valves fearing I would mess something up. So how do I get the timing right.

2. Green cam mark is intake and orange is exhaust, correct?

That should be it right now, if you have any more helpful information I would gladly apprectiate you posting it. And please don't tell me not to do it or go buy a complete head. I am very patience and determined. Thanks for your help.

if you're that scared of messing it up don't try. It wont' work. There is only one person who has ever done this successfully and it required lots of part sourcing, some machining, etc. Trust me, you don't have the ability to do this; just swap an entire motor if you want a DOHC.

I have the entire motor, but I wanted to swap heads. I not afraid of messing anything up, just the valves that I did not mess with. The only thing I don't know how to do is make sure the cams are set right with the valves. Everything else I am sure I could do, I have/can get a hold of all the tools I need. So I basicly want to how to get the cams in line with the valves and nothing else.

When it comes to aligning your cams with the crank, I have found out that Nissan is a pain in the @$$ if you have never done this sort of thing before. Unlike almost every other car manufacturer Nissan uses the chain link method. You do not have to have the marked chain links lined up as long as you know that your piston and cams are set to TDC. Go to Jimwolftechnology.com. Under their tech section they will have directions and pictures on installing their cams in the KA24DE. This will be same for the stock cams. They have pictures of how your cams should be positioned in TDC. Follow those down to the last word and you should be just fine.

i remember seeing that page a while ago. i dont remember it exactly tho. what if u were off a tooth or two tho. jsut line it up with the chain links and ur fine. the only tricky one is on the idle pulley. the timing mark is on the bottom when at TDC

Hey, I have see people bend valves just because they have taken their cams off. The cam orientation will let you know the general ball park where your cams should be in orientation to the crank, from there make sure you line up your chain links, as "structure" pointed out. Over all, being a tooth off is an easy fix compared to bending your valves.

I'd do it right the first time, then have to replace something. I'll be sure and double check everything before I try and start the car.
