What was the reason that made you decide to change spark plugs?4drmadness wrote:hey guys, i was just installing new spark plugs today. i bought some ngk iridium ones. the stock ones were ngk as well, but they were the copper ones. i didnt know this. while getting my spark plugs installed, i saw some oil in cylinder # 5. I was expecting this, and i have 3k left before powertrain warranty is over. after i installed the iridiums, i noticed very loud misfire coming from my car. it sounded like loud explosions. freaked me out, so i told my installer to put back the copper ones. after all of this, there was still engine misfire. do you guys think the leaking valve cover is contributing this? please let me know your thoughts. my car is sitting at the dealership, and dont know what to expect.
I disagree on both. I think the way Telco drives his car that his plugs might last til 100K, but not the way you drive.telcoman wrote:

They should be good for 100k miles
On previous vehicles I discovered that over time (years) valve cover bolts can loosen due to engine vibration. Putting a socket wrench to each one to check that they are all tight may be a source of a slight oil leak?

I'm assuming the mechanic that changed your plugs was not at an Infiniti dealer? If you paid by credit card (never pay any other way) you can now go to an Infiniti dealer to have them fix the problem. If the plug wires were replaced incorrectly or the wrong plugs were installed then have them write that up clearly on the bill. Pay them by credit card. Then call and write a letter to the credit card company along with a copy of the Infiniti bill and ask that they issue a charge back and to credit your account for the amount you paid the first mechanic.State in the letter the work performed was perfunctory and in an unworkman like manner.4drmadness wrote:well i decided to change my spark plugs because many people were complaining about leaking valve covers. I only had 3k left of powertrain warranty so i just wanted to find out if i had the problem as well.
can you use coppercoat or permatex to make is seal on the sparkplug hole?thats what i will be trying when i do my sparkplugs..4drmadness wrote:yea dude, like none of my mods have contributed to that. they quoted me 1500 to get it fixes. i guess ill always have oil leaking in there
