Hello

I got a 96 Q45 with 159ooo Km on it, today while driving the car on the highway. I was passing a car, while I revved to 3000rpm to make my pass. the car made a squeeking sound, like a belt was really tight, got me worried, when I parked the car, I looked under the hood to spot anything different, but nothing, and it wouldn't make that sound while revving in park. Also the check engine light came on as well. Anyone have an idea, has this happen to anyone else?

Well, with no maintenance history, very difficult for us to tell.

When's the last time you replaced accessory belts and pulleys?

Have you had the codes read for the check engine light? I would start with that, and see what comes up.

I have only owned the car for a month or so, I have some mainteance history, the accessory belts have been replaced before, but I didnt see any paperwork on the pulleys. When accelerating from stop, the fan seems to spinning faster making a semi-truck sound, then after 3k rpm it starts to squeel. After I did some searching on here, it seems to me that its my fan clutch. How would I check for bad pulley, and also how do I read the codes.

Thanks

Bingo! Sounds like a bad fan clutch. You can try to find a used one on NICO's Infiniti Parts Forum or get a new one from Joe.

Wiggle the pulleys and check the codes with any OBDII code reader.

Yes, that does sound like the fan clutch to me also- a simple do it yourself repair. Bad pully bearings cause more of a screeching sound-do the clutch and see if all is quiet.

Rent/borrow/buy a OBD2 code reader to figure out why light is on.Here in USA, they are inexpensive to buy, or many auto parts stores advertise they will read them for you for free- check around in your area-pretty basic and popular to get further assistance locally

Update.

Will be scanning the car in few hours, lucky one the guys from the local bmw club has a scanner I can use . Called my parts guy, gone for the day, but the fan clutch retails at $102 CDN, but my parts guy will sell it at cost when I call tomorrow.

Great on the code reader- keep us informed

Good price on the clutch, should take less than 1 hour to install!
