hilo everyone. I just brought a 240sx not long ago. you probably wont remember me but fyi this was me =] zer...age=1

The car finally started today but there are still problems with it and i was wondering if anyone here knows or have any idea what i need to fix to make it run better??

Heres the problems:

1.) I cant keep her running w/o giving it gas. 2.) the engine is shaking like crazy.

Any input would be great! thanks

Glad you were able to find the original problem. Our Race car did the same after we r&r timing chain etc.

Check firing order

Reset the engine to #1 TDC and check Distributor alignment.(we had to re-set the oil pump to get ours right)

If setting timing with timing light be sure to disconnect the Throtel Position Sensior before you set the timing.

If you can keep it runing long enough to get warm will it idle by itself? If so check your injectors by unpluging one at a time. We found 2 bad injectors this way. Yes the car was idleing on only 2 cyl. (ran one race that way too)

Take things one step at a time and I am sure you will get it fixed.

yeah when the cars got warmer it idles by itself at about 1k rpm for a good 3-4 minutes until it dies again. thanks for the help! i will go check the distrib alignment and etc.

You don't re-set the oil pump exactly. not the best choice of words.

The oil pump and the distributor use a common drive taken off the crankchaft. The instructins for timing chain replacement we folloed (thanks NICO) had us insert the oil pump first. You align the dot on the pump drive shaft with the mark on the pump and then place it in the engine.

On oours it moved and we did not notice it. The result was the Crank and Cam were set fine but we could not advance the timing enough. By removing the oil pump and re-aligning it properly we were able to set teh timing properly.

It took us two tries as it kept moving on us while inserting it. If you set the engine to #1 TDC and the distributor is off a little from where it needs to be then check your oil pump is properly inserted.

Also did you say that this car sat for awhile? How old is the gas in the tank? We had a problem untill we replaced the fuel with fresh. This can be a problem with cars that have sat for as little as a couple of months.

Old Gas + timing a little off = poor runing engine.

Hope this helps.

ouhh thanks for mentioning about the gas the person i brought it from claims the car have been sitting in the garage for few years. so the gas must have been super old. that can probably do some damage to my injectors as well i will check everything on wedseday and get back to ya. thanks!
