I am a newbie (an oldtimer as well), owned my 1989 240 since 1994, I find the engine sluggish at best even when running optimal, especially today since most sport vehicles have 200hp +, I read many threads as not to waste anyones time but I have a few questions

my KA24e has 264,000 kms which I plan to rebuild as I am rebuilding the body as well (main stringers underneath rotted right out, did not make the essential investment when younger on rust proofing), I have gutted the car down to the shell with the exception of the engine, the engine ran considerably good with no part replacements (WOW i know I spent the money on the oil changes lol) Anways I want to keep the car as close to the original factory built specs, I was going to buy the CA18DET or SR20DET to get more hp but after reading the KA-t threads I am most impressed about the knowledge of members here. I will have the engine rebuilt and would like the engine to run around 250hp + to keep me smiling and saying holy shi** I should have done this years ago! Any suggestions on the best route to keep the vehicle close to factory specs but achieve the hp i would like??

Well you kinda have conflicting goals, getting 250 hp and adding a turbo, while keeping close to factory really doesnt mesh well.

If your going to rebuild your motor, you could go with an OEM rebuild, but why not spend a little extra cash and put at least nice pistons and rings so you will never have to worry about it. They will outlast an OEM rebuild any day.

The thing that kinda sucks for you is that you have a SOHC. Your options are kinda limited because of that. I only know of a few company's who make turbo manifolds for a SOHC. Also its harder to get to your HP goals with a sohc. You will need to crank up the boost, im guessing to at least 10-12 with a T3 sized turbo.

Same thing was posted not too long ago in the 240sx forum. Maybe same guy. But yeah, staying original, and totally modifying a car are totally different things. We can tell you how to go fast with a KA=Turbo. But keeping her original, that's a whole different beast.

Ok, I have a few questions

-what modificaitons need to be done to achieve KA-T, obviously a manifold, turbo (t3 or t4), what else, will I need to change factory exhaust

-what is the longevity of the engine once this is performed (any special maintenance required)? - does any of this effect the operation of any other components

- what would be the total cost based on your experience to perform the necessary mods based on your experience

and lastly is this engine worth it?? Please say yes lol ...it has gotten me throught the last 17years
