1. Search on here for EGR valve. It sounds like the problem some have had with that.2. Search on here for alternator. Some have had problems with aftermarket alternators and some will tell you to stick to only OEM alternators.3. Any that you want. You will need a wire harness adapter to hook up the aftermarket HU to factory speakers. You can search on here for that too.cadahnic11 wrote:Ok guys I have a great 95 J30 that runs beautifully most of the time. I have even gotten the gas mileage to 20 in the city which is awesome right now. My problem though is that the engine light comes on when you throttle up between 40-60. Then it usually goes off a little later. Another situation is something keeps burning up my altenator. Now when I took the broken alternator to the Autozone they said that I had a short. So naturally I am thinking this is going to be costly. I get a diagonstic and everything comes back clean. One guy recommened taking it to the dealership, but that will be costly, and I just dont have the scratch right now for that. So my three questions are this...
1. What do I do about the throttle problem and could that be causing the drain on the alternator?2. What course of action should I take so another 8months from now I have to go trade in another alternator?3. What is a good after market CD/radio to put into my car and connect with amp and speakers?
Thanks you guys for the help.. Someone will need to tell me how to post pics also...
It is ironic me saying that about the alternater because I actually have an alternater on my J from Advance Auto. Guess I'll just be taking my chance.yodawill2000 wrote:I betcha a donut the CEL going on between 40 to 60 is clogged egr tubes like Scott said.I had the EXACT thing on mine.Check the ECU codes and I bet you will get the EGR function code.
Ditto to everthing else Scott said.
Its been proved here MANY times that Non OEM alternators will cause troubles.
All I can say is if and when this one goes just bite the bullet and go OEM.cadahnic11 wrote:Have you had any situations with your alternator. The thing is I replaced it, then that one burned up, took it back and got another one, and then about 2 mos ago took it out and it turned up bad. So this one has been good, but I want to make sure everything is ok with the car before I hook up an amp and extra speakers ya know. The EGR is something I might do next week since you guys say it is pretty easy to do on my own. Not very handy around cars, but reading how to do it did not seem to hard.
How much cheaper is a whole lot cheaper?gotspeed wrote:If you would like to keep your stereo stock then i would say get your stereo repaired, its a whole lot cheaper than going aftermarket, and plus you keep your stock look.
i had my Bose stereo fixed for the radio, intermittent display, no sound, cd player and the tape deck for $170 and you can pay more than that on a aftermarket stereo alone. not including the amps wires and additional speakers (if you bypass the bose speakers). plus the stock look is clean but to each his own.gr8scott72 wrote:
