Just finished the SR20DET swap in the 89 240sx.

When I went to start it, the RPM needle was jumping up and down during cranking and when the car turned on (only for a few seconds), it sounded like a lawn mower then the motor turned off. This happened a few times so we re-did the timing (aligned the yellow dot on the pulley to the pointer and for the distributor / crank angle sensor on the head, we lined it up with the first dot).

Now the engine will not turn over, all we hear is a loud click from the starter.

We even jumped the battery with running car and still nothing.

What’s weird is also when the motor was on for that few seconds, I tried to give it gas but there was no throttle response at all. the RPM would flucuate like crazy up a few 1000rpm (0-1000rpm then 0-4000rpm) .

If the starter is bad, is the KA24DE starter interchangeable with the SR20DET?

I dont see any CEL either. I'll look more into it when i get home.....

PLEASE HELP!

Thank you in advance

well first of all the timing is off. it should be at 15degrees btdc. that is the second mark from the right. (the 3rd mark to the right from the yellow one) the idle fluctuating like that with no throttle response sounds like a bad tps. If you can get the car started which does sound like the starter since you are getting a clicking from there check the tps voltage. by the way the sr starter is a rwd sr part only it is not interchangeable with any usdm part.

Make sure your batt is fully charged and try giving the starter few good smacks.

When you do get the motor running, some of the things to check for are MAF, TPS, timing (chain's lined up, CAS stabbed right, ignition timing ok), major vac leaks, etc etc
