It really has been discussed a dozen times. I've taken one off before....search.

But, since i'm a nice guy, I'll tell you what I did.Drill two holes in it 180 degrees apart. Tap them, thread bolts in, and use a puller plate. Combine this method with heat on the cog if it's tough. The part number for the replacement cog, key, and plate are in the parts list (might still be a sticky).

Now, check your attitude, and search next time.

using a slide hammer as opposed to a puller is much better imo, easier and safer for crank

and just so you know, thats no simple hunk of metal to drill/cut thru. you will break many bits if your not careful because it is very very hard, and obviously, its positioned entirely wrong for it to be an easy thing to cut off. you have valuable things like the oil pump housing or the crankshaft that are in danger of getting cut and its just a pain to get a cutting disc thru all/most of it.

Nahh, what is it, cast iron? It took me all of 15 mins to drill and tap it. But, you're partially right, don't expect your Black and Decker cordless sheetrock drill to be up to the job. You need something a bit more heavy duty.

Also, try using a small torch on the face of the cog, without hitting the shaft. It doesn't take much...maybe 180F, to make a huge difference in the clearance.

Nope, it's hi tempered steel.

I got a two jaw puller on mine and hit it with my cutting torch. Did the trick, but don't plan on re using the gear...
