What up guys...been workin on my engine all winter and went to finish it up today. Got the new exhaust on and replaced all the gaskets on my engine over winter. But when i finally went to start it up after double checkin everything. It started up...YAY, but just shot straight up to the 6-7k marker on the rpms and stayed there. I checked my throttle its got slack in the cable (just a little though) Checked the TPS i think on the side of the throttle body and its adjusted down as far as it will go. The throttle body doesnt stick and moves fluidly. Checked all my intercooler coupling for air leaks and im good. Vaccuum holds at 20-22. So any ideas,,,, im fresh out and i dont want to SCREW UP my engine. please advice. Thanks

I'd say... check your iacv. My swap came with a dirty one. I cleaned it and adjusted the screw and voila, my idle came back to life.

Check out a fellow member's how to clean iacv thread. zerothread/251731

If it's not the iacv, maybe it's a vac leak. Check all hose connections.

Yeah, def check for leaks and the iacv like he said. Isnt there an idle adjustment screw on the ecu?

When i replace the gaskets on the air intake manifold...i cleaned and also checked the IACY and replaced its gasket too. As i read to many horror stories about finicky idle. So i thought it was best to clean and redo it as well.

After searching, i think i might notice what the problem is. I had my TPS metal lever under the idle lever on the right side of the throttle body. If im correct the tps lever moves up and down...so sayin that, the idle(throttle body lever) needs to be under the TPS to push it up and down.

Before i had the tps under the idle lever and that might have been giving me my problem. Ill check tomorrow ive been searching for pics of what it should look like but cant seem to find any. If anyone has a close up picture of what theres looks like could you put it in a reply for me. Thanks verymuch.

well to my knowledge...your supposed to check your tps voltage which should be around 0.45/0.5 with a multimeter before you try to adjust it and if u do need to adjust it it's only because you need to get those voltage #.

good luck...

kk, high revving fixed....it was how i had my TPS installed after i took it off. New problem though. Car runs but has rough idle, very low wants to js die low. Anyhow i wish i could tell what is going on but now my tach isnt working.

somewhere here on NICO is a link to, how to hook up your tachometer using the CAS singal on the ECU, but i dont have the link anymore. Does anyone have it. if so could you please post it. Thanks

lol as soon as I read your post I knew it was the tps because I did the same thing when I changed my intake on my 1jz swap. The tps was holding the throttle open.

KK new news to my car running wrong. The high idle has been fixed but now im having huge backfire and rough idle issues.

The coilpacks have been checked and all are firing correctly. Hooked up a spark plug checker and also gournded out the spark plug while running and it arked well. So coilpacks ruled out. Next i checked the injectors. I was having a problem with the injector closest to the front of the car. But i tried putting it in a different place and switching injectors and connectors around and the problem persisted on js that one cylinder. So injectors are ruled out. I took a volt meter and ran it on the ijector connectors and i have 12v across the board.

Next up i had the stock fpr on the car which i replaced with a nismo FPR and that seemed to fix the problem for a bit. Than the backfiring started and rough idle started. Got it to hold idle but backfires bad under throttle. Let off the gas and it returns to a 900rpm idle. I have an upgraded walbro pump if that would make any difference.

Vacuum holds good at 17psi at idle and around 20 under throttle a bit. I have a new gasket on the IACV and have cleaned it out thoroughly. So if anyone has any idea please let me know. I really want this thing to run smoothly.

I took it out for a test ride across the street in a parking lot and it js does not have anyhorsepower and wants to backfire horribly. Yes i know about the nismo fpr needing to be set at 36 with vacuum and 42without vaccuum.

So if ou have anyidea of how to fix it please help.

Damn 17psi at idle!! talk about 0 lag lol jk anyway i'm not sure what the fpr should be set to but make sure the fuel pressure is set correctly because it sounds like you're running rich and too high a fuel pressure will do that. Seems like you already know that though so i'm not sure what to tell ya buddy sorry

Thanks anyhow justin. And when it comes to the 17vacuum read.....its nice but when i womp on the gas, and let off....oh the surge is so wonderful...ch ch chc hc chchchchcch. So i took apart my GREDDY type RS and removed the stiffer spring it helped some but not enoght to eliminate it.
