Well here's the issue.

i bought this car about 2 months and ran good since i bought it. it has a redtop s13 sr20. the o2 hasnt worked since i bought it b.c the harness melted for the o2.i just got a o2 from a 95 s14 and put it in and connected it.the car ran good until it got to operating temp.as soon as it warmed all the way up the car chuged and shut off.i tried to restart and it idled but chuged still and shut off.i did this a cuple times and still shut off. so i came to the conclusion that i may have wired it wrong. so i switched wires and it still did it.so i disconnected the wires and basically it was back to the way it was before i put the new o2 in.reset the ecu and it still does it.BTW. when i connected the wires my gauge was still not reading anything.

what in gods name could be wrong with my car?

Well for one i don't think it's your O2 that would cause it to run crappy but not kill it. If your O2 Sensor harness was melted it may have melted another harness with a more Ignition/ECU wires so check all the harnesses

The O2 gauge sucks at reading SR's. It only reads at WOT. And yes your injectors could have gotten stuck open and flooded the motor hence the not starting. Check your water temp sensor, I've heard of problems where this causes the injectors to jump a stupid amount of fuel into the motor. Check your spark plugs to see how they look. I was under the impression that only the 300zx O2 would work but I may be wrong.

You can use a number of different o2 sensors. It's 3 wire, right? You can use a Bosche 3-wire universal. I use that on my CA, which can also use the 300zx sensor. If you know at least one injector is getting stuck open, get that problem fixed, it may solve your problem. If you think they get stuck because they're dirty, get them cleaned. If not, get new ones.

RMiller,I'm using the Bosch O2 sensor from the 87 300Zx turbo as well but I smashed the connector from the SR harness that goes to the connector on Bosch O2. Do you happen to know the wiring info for that sensor? It has the 3 wires (red, black, white) but I don't know which color wire sends the signal to ECU. Could you be so kind as to check on your SR? I tried asking on the other forum (FA) and got no help, not even an answer. I tried searching on this forum to no avail as well. Thanks in advance.

Yeah sure. The black wire on the sensor is the signal wire. The other 2 wires are not polar and are your power (heater) wires. So your signal wire goes to black, the other 2 go on the remaining wires.

i tried it with a different q45 maf and it still does the same thing.

without any maf hooked up it idles and runs fine. but with a maf hooked up it willnot run for more than 5 seconds.

what else could be the problem?
