Alright well I have a thread on here but it doesnt get replied to so I thought this would be better, but on to the point I have a 93 hatch and I swapped in a 89 single and it needed alot of work but as of maybe a 2 weeks ago I got it running smooth as butter and I parked it. Then a buddy came over and wanted to hear my new exhaust so I cranked it and gave her some throttle... and it started making a horrible noise. The timing chain was loose so I put a whole new timing kit on and it still made that horrible noise.

So I took it to a shop and he said it was a rod knock, it sounds nothing like a rod knock he said he cranked it over and it locked up. But me and my buddy think we put the clutch on wrong and it came loose and it is hitting the walls of the transmission. But I read that you cant use the same fly wheel bolts twice because they stretch out. And we think one of the bolts got under the fly wheel and is locking it up so it wont do s***. But anybody have any info ideas of what I can do or should do?

I really need help and this is my way to work and school and I need it running asap, but anybody know where to get a good full rebuild kit?

Did you try push starting it?? If you did and the wheels lock up and it makes no attempt to start then somethings is stuck in the flywheel.

Something similar happened with me, a front piece of the starter had broken off and got stuck in the flywheel. So me and my brother tried to push start it and it almost started once but then the wheels started to lock up. So we took the starter off and it was the starter.

i have a few ideas for you man.
if its locked up, take the plugs out and see if itll spin, if it spins, its not done yet.
check to make sure youre getting spark to all cylinders,
make sure all injectors are working.
make sure you didnt skip a tooth on the timing chain or the timing is off.
make sure you installed the guides correctly.
take the transmission loos, check the clutch. i personally have had a clutch kill itself and a peice hung off and slapped the bell and made a crap load of noise.

ive dealt with all of these things except the timing chain, i changed it and had no issue. other than that all these things will make a bunch of noise.
you can probably rule some out in about 15-20 minutes....so get to it haha

also, make sure the oil is topped off....the oil tube in the pan breaks somtimes and itll draw oil from a higher spot, drying out the engine and making some serious tap and clack from the valve train.
sohc will right themselves out after a few minutes of running if you top it off.
just another somthing to check out.

No I have not tried that, and that will be the first thing I do

Well when it first started making that noise the injectors were fine and the spark plugs were fine. It has new spark plugs in it, but when I get it that was one of the first things I was going to do, I am going to drop the transmission and look in there and hopefully that is the problem.

But thanks guys for the help i will let you all know what it was :bigthumb:
