i have a 96 240sx that is falling apart faster than i can make the money to repair it....i still owe $3,600 on it and i need to get rid of it. does anyone know any websites i could sell it on or if you know anyone searching for a used 240sx let me know....also i am starting to look for another 240sx or maybe a 300zx any opinions on either car and i was wondering if it would be worth it to look into a 97-98 model 240 rather than another 96....thx

You have some issues to deal with before selling it.

You said you owe $3600. If you're financing it, then you don't have clear title. I'm not sure how you can sell a car you don't actually own. I suppose you could trade it to a dealer on something else but you'll take a bath as that debt you owe will wipe out much of what your car is worth in trade. that means the next car will cost you more. If you want to get a decent price selling a car, chances are you're gonna have to fix whatever is wrong with it, as no one is going to pay a premium for a car that's falling apart. Also, a 300ZX will be more expensive to maintain/repair than a 240sx. So keep that in mind.

I recommend the NICO Buy/sell/trade section as I sold my S-13 to a fellow NICO member using it, and it costs nothing. But you're not giving NICO members much incentive to buy it by the way you described it.

I think your best path is to fix it, and pay it off before trying to sell it. It's probably not what you want to hear, but it's probably your best option financially.

Good luck

the shocks are worn, need a/c blower motor, headlights are faded, paint faded, auto transmissions suck!! bumper cracked, small oil leak,...if i keep driving it it will only get worse since i've had it for 6 months now and it has all these probs....and i drive it like a grandma car and it still is falling to pieces...especially with 124k miles on it...i think the car needs to be retired in a garage somewhere or else someone fixes it up....

Sorry you feel that way about your car, but a car with 124K miles isn't going to be maintenance free. If you've only had the car 6 months, some of these problems had to be visible to you when you bought it. The faded paint and headlights lens, cracked bumper are pretty obvious. Now struts on 240's do wear out eventually, particularly the fronts. I replaced the fronts on my old S-13 at about 140K. Struts are a regular maintenance item, they don't last forever. They're also not that expensive if you keep them stock.

You can run that car in the winter without a/c even in Florida, so that can be a low priority. You also bought the car with an automatic transmission, so that was your entirely your doing. However if you commute in traffic, automatics can be better. The small oil leak you mentioned should get looked at. And you might find out it's something minor. When my 240 hit 140K, the radio died, and the clutch slave cylinder started leaking in addition to the struts. I spent a lot of money that month on her. IMHO that's simply part of car ownership.

You still can't sell a car without a clear title, and that's you biggest obstacle. If you try to trade it on another used car owing that much on it, you're going to get virtually no value for it as a downpayment. In fact it'll probably make your monthly payments on the next car higher! And if money is an object , higher payments are not your goal.

I think you need to stick with the car, fix it as you go, pay it off, then sell it.

Regards
