I moved this here from an earlier post.

I recently replaced both front wheel bearings and the right-side hub. During the process, we briefly disconnected the ABS sensors with the ignition in the on position. As you probably know, this triggered the ABS, Traction Control, and Limited Slip bulbs on the dash. I disconnected the negative battery cable for several hours, but the lights are still on. My local Infiniti dealer claims these are "hard" codes and cannot be cleared by disconnecting the battery.

I have found instructions for resetting the ECU on 1999 and earlier models, as well as, the 2002 and later (drive-by-wire) models. I don't want to pay the dealer $80 for 5 minutes worth of work (call it stupid pride), but also I don't want my wife driving the car in wet weather without ABS and TCS.

Any ideas for resetting the ECU on a 2001 I30 will be greatly appreciated.

Most OBD2 scan tools have a reset [clear code function]...............now ABS ecu has a special 2nd hard [wreck] memory which cannot be reset but that is associated with Air Bag/seat belt tensioner activation.

I had my local Autozone scan for error codes using the OBD2 port and scan tool. The scan found no errors, even though the lights were still on. I even had them run the clear function just in case. Of course, the lights were still on.

I am pretty sure that the left ABS sensor is bad (it looks like it may have been damaged). I am going to replace the sensor this weekend, and need a way to clear the codes once the new sensor is installed. Any ideas?

My OBDII truck will allow you to reset the ECU manually by turning the test screw in a certain sequence. You need to check the FSM (Factory Service Manual) to see if there's a sequence you can use to reset it. You probably need to diagnose the ABS sensor before throwing parts at it too... I suspect the sensor is fairly expensive.

If you haven't done so I would invest the $20 for the one day "viewing" subscription of the FSM and TSBs at http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/infiniti The link doesn't work for some reason at the moment, but I'm sure it's the right one.

You can save the FSM and TSB section by section as .pdf documents. Just be sure to have plenty of time and a high-speed connection.

Good luck!
