I recently underwent a major brake system overhaul (rotors/pads/hardware/sensors). The brake shop was unable to get rid of the "brake pads worn" message, which is fairly annoying. I am guessing they don't have consult, they attempted to disconnect the battery in hopes of resetting the ecu, this had no effect. Is there anything I can do, short of taking it to a shop with consult?

Thanks

This has nothing to do with ECU.

They used non OEM pads many of which dont have the sensor wire hook-up.

The wire need to be bypassed/shorted if you want to keep those brake pads.

They seemed to indicate the sensors hooked up to something, they said everything hooked up fine. I guess I'll call them to get some clarification. Thanks

The ECU has no memory function for those its a on/off system depending on wether current is there or not.

There are 2 sensors, one on the pasenger front, and one on the rear. They wear, and break contact, causing the message. The best way to get rid of the message, is to use OEM pads, which come with the sensors. The second best way, is to call the local Infiniti parts department, to see if you can buy them separately.

The cheap way, is to cut the wires, and add a wirenut. Be sure to cut the wire right next to the sensor, so next time you can buy the OEM pads, and replace the sensors.

This feature went away, later in the '94 model year.

Right now, mine are wirenuts, but I will replace with the sensors, when I do my brakes next, since we all get a smokin' deal through Joe.

Why are members so afraid of the Consult? Surely you should not be doing Q/J/G/M business with any shop that doesn't have one because it is so cheap in relative terms compared to other shop tools amd test equipment. Obviously the shop doesn't care about solving Nissan problems and probably doesn't do enough work on Nissans to justy buying one.........that is scarey!

That should be the number one question before doing business do you have at least a Consult one with appropriate cards.

More damages to Q are done by shade tree mechanics than you realize.

So you're saying the brake message does have something to do with the ECU? If not I don't see how the Consult will help with the brake issue.

The diagnostic display is self contained and only recieves a few signals from tcu [AT malfunction] most others are simple open/closed switches and alternator and feeds from the light bulb current control unit.

The right front and rear rear brake pad sensor are in series so either one can provide the open circuit!
