need help replacing new struts.

ok i've already removed my springs and upper gland nut. is there some sort of special tool that will take out the old strut from the outer casting or with enough strenght i can just pull it out. and when taken out can i just slide the new one in. thanks

There's typically a rubber oring around the outer perimeter inside the tube once you get the gland nut off. You can pry that out with a scribe. I'd just put the nut back on the shaft, clamp that in a vise...hanging from the vise...then tap down on the caliper mounts with a rubber hammer while holding the tube. Go slow as the upper bushing/seal gets to the top of the tube. Once that is loose, it all comes out easy. There's oil inside, so don't tip it over until you have it over a pan.

I'm guessing you already have this figured out since I'm a few days late.
