I have a 2000 QX4 that threw some codes, my mechanic (one I trust) told me it was the knock sensor and the O2 sensor and that I needed to get them replaced soon.So I ordered the parts and now I need to know what to do with them, lol.

I'm pretty sure I can figure out the O2 sensor, I've found a few "how to's" for that. Only question on that is if I need to change the rear right, is it the passenger or drivers side? (the right when looking at the front or the back of the SUV?)

But the Knock sensor I'm having a harder time finding info on. I know its located at the back of the engine in the middle, but how do I get at it? Is there an "easy" way or will I have to remove things. If anyone has a picture tutorial or something that would be awesome, otherwise I'll have to just get the mechanic to do it so I don't mess anything up I guess.

Thanks for any help!

Wow! You have a kock sensor?!

j/k

The knock sensor will be a SOB. You almost have to take off the entire top half of the engine. Somewhere on Nico is the FSM, just search the forums and it'll pop up the location for you.

As for the o2 sensor, the code you got should tell you exactly which sensor failed. If you look at the first few posts in this forum, you'll find one that lists all the codes and their meanings.

Good luck!

lol, I fixed the spelling!

I know that the O2 sensor that needs replacing is the RIGHT REAR, I just need to know if thats the passenger or driver side, lol.

Whats FSM?

I pretty much know the location, was just hoping someone had some tips to get at it the easiest, removing as little as possible And if anypne had photos of the process that'd be even better!

Personally, I'd replace the o2 sensor, clear the codes and see if you still get the knock sensor code before replacing it. I had o2 sensor codes along with the knock sensor codes, and only replaced the o2 sensor. Sometimes if the o2 sensor is throwing the ecu bad info, it can set off the knock sensor code too.

I always thought FSM stood for Factory Service Manual??
