I'm a newb to the forum, but ran into a stopping point on 2001 Pathinder 3.5L V6 4x4... I know this is a Maxima forum, but we share the same engine and the Pathfinder forum hasn't given me any suggestions yet...

Was replacing cracked radiator, belts & hoses, and was planning to replace the timing chain tensioner and water pump...

How do you remove the plastic timing chain tensioner and water pump covers without damage? Unbolted and attempted to get putty knife under the edge, but they are stuck on tight with RTV sealant. Felt I was going to damage/break the covers? Any tips/tricks?

Maybe break them and buy new ones is the only way?

It definitely shows the procedures for water pump replacement and removing of the covers, but no additional guidance other than "8. Remove chain tensioner cover and water pump cover."
