So my brother installed a set of reverse indigo gauges in my car a few months ago.. I told him not to touch any needle no matter what, but he touched all of em anyway. Now, my tach idles at high 2000+ when I first start the car up and settles down to a minimum 1800 after a while. At first, I thought the strange idle was normal since the tach needle doesn't go all the way down to zero on the new gauge face, because the pointy black plastic is preventing it. Basically, the tach face needs to be redrilled/reseated.

I took my car to a friend's house yesterday and he told me my car is idling fine just by listening to the engine. I didn't wanna believe him so I asked his cousin and he said the same thing. BTW, they both know their stuff because auto sh*t pretty much runs in their family. They told me my tach needs to be recalibrated but I have no clue how to do it. I did a search but nothing came up. The cheepo chilton's manual that I have also doesn't cover it.

Also, is it normal for my tach to jump to 1000 when I put the ignition to ACC/battery mode?

TIA

thats your problem, the tach is off by 1000 rpm. basically, what you have to do is remove the cluster, and zero the needle. just remove the needle by pulling it off GENTLY and moving it 1000 rpm down so that when the car is on but not running, it reads 0 rpm.

ill try to clearify this. try to take a SMALL pair of needle nose or tweezers or the like, open the gauge cluster, turn the needle to 1000 rpm, grab the metal shaft, pull the needle off gently, and reseat it at 0.

take off the guages and remove the plastic. remove the plastic needle rest at the bottom. There should be a dot at the bootm of your guages at about 6 or 7 oclock. set the needle to that position. Put the plastic needle rest back on(while holding the needle above it) It should be reset
