Yesterday it rained all day in Georgia. I had an oil change and inspection of the car at Infiniti of South Atlanta. Just last week I put new 20x10 wheels with 275 tires (Yokahoma S-drive). I was going about 70 down the interstate and hydroplaned off the road and into the grass. I managed to get the car back on the road, and to the Infiniti dealership, but on the way back home I would hydroplane constantly. I was going 35 mph down the interstate because I would continue to slide off of the road. These tires were brand new (just got them 2 weeks ago). I bought the rear camber adjusters, not the front, but the Infiniti dealership said that my rear tread was low. Can anyone help me?

Thanks, Chris

thats what i was just about to say is you have bald tires. i had the same problem with my 19"s a little wetness on the ground and the car would switch lanes. and on the highway 80+ it would feel soo unstable on dry ground.i got my tires changed and right out of the shop it was raining hard and i floored it from a stop and just took off no spinning or sliding. its definitely your tires.

I never had a problem with hydroplaning with my S-Drives on my 05 coupe. The only thing I can think of is that your new rims are not installed properly with the camber adjusters.

I'm a bit confused by your post...you said that they are new tires, but the dealer said your tread was low? Can you clarify?

I'm with Joe, a little confused.

So, you got new 275's a week or so ago on the REAR and the tread is already low??

What's the condition of your fronts?

You can pick up a tread gauge at most parts houses.

I don't run tires on my fronts less than 4/32nd deep.I might go a little less on the back, but not much before replacing them.

Ha sorry it was a little unclear.I'm just frantic because I have to get back on the interstate after work. I got new wheels and tires 2 weeks ago. 245 in the front and no camber adjustments (looks like I need them though) and 275 in the rear with the camber adjustments. The guy at the Infiniti dealership said that I had BAD uneven tread on my rear tires?? I figured he would have said the front... Just driving down side roads with hardly any water on the road I'm still sliding.

Thanks for the quick responses

who installed the rims? Did you do an alignment? Something is way off if it only took 2 weeks to screw up your new tires. I'd take it back and demand they pay for a new set!

Wow am It may sound stupid but did they put the tires on right? S drived is directional tire if I remember right. If they install it wrong the water can't escape and lifts the car up aka hydroplaning. Tire pressure would be my second guess.

This has to be an error somewhere in the installation of the tire. You need highr speed than 35mph and heavy rain.

What is the temperature around you?

Z1 motorsports installed springs, camber adjustments, and wheels. I got the wheels balanced right when I left at Goodyear. I will check when I'm leaving work if they are all in the right direction. I got the wheels and tires from an online store (www.wheelstudio.com). If the problem continues after I take it to Z1 tomorrow then I will call wheel studio. Thanks guys

I doubt it was Z1. I am wondering if I didn't need the camber adjustments?!

Not sure what the temperature is but summer tires are not good in cold weather. If you get down to freezing point and rain that would do it. Are you sure it is not the temperature? What kind of tirew did you have before?

Also, like zozo says, S-Drives (I have them too) are directional, so check the side wall!!

WTF, your rear camber is all jacked up. You are running positive camber in the rear and that is why you are experiencing those issues. Look at the pictures folks, no car should ever sit like that unless they just lowered it down from the jack. But once you move the car around any at all, the suspension settles back to where it should be. I take it the car was moved in order to take the pics after installing the wheels/tires.

Look at the back wheel.

It'd be much easier to tell what the rear alignment looks like if you had a picture from right behind the car.

If your tread is worn, then you have bad toe which will eat through tires. If you had a camber kit installed, then you should have had an alignment done. If that was done take it back and have them check the specs. Post up the specs of the alignment.

It looks like you have toe issue from the picture but not a great angle to judge by.

Here is your rear pic, that camber is positive, no question in my mind. Look at the front wheels and how they set compared to the rear.

I'm less certain that the rear is pos camber than I am the front is neg camber. Still, needs to have it checked regardless and it does make sense that it is.

Chris, I assume that you did get it checked, what was the verdict??

You should never have positive camber unless your car is setup for Nascar or something on 30* embankments.

^^ agreed, but I would think a Nascar setup would have pos on one side and neg on the other? After I lowered my cobra and put 275's on her, I had an aggressive alignment put to her and it was unbelievable in the twisties!!! But, it tracked all over the place on uneven surfaces and when you hit bumps.Don't remember the specs, but I followed the advice of the guys at Steeda where I purchased the springs & cc plates & cobra R's.

Yes positive on one side and negative on the other would be normal in their world. The oem specs for any g35 don't call for positive camber. The more I look at the pictures, I would begin to venture the toe is jacked up as well. I'm curious to know if the suspension is stock or after-market.

Okay.... the problem was when I took it to Goodyear to get my alignment, they didn't actually align my car, they only balanced it. I tried to get them to buy me new tires, but they only had balancing in the system. Pisses me off when people don't listen. I did have rear positive camber and way bad toe-in. I took it to finally get aligned, and they said I have 2/32 left on my back tires and 10/32 on the front.

I would get two new rears and then take it to somebody else for the alignment. You should replace at 4/32 imho, unless you don't get rain or snow.
