I was a moron yesterday and was installing power wire through the firewall at the top left behind the glove box. Have done it a million times, but yesterday afteri was done i drove the Q and noticed it was running funny. Drove it again today still acting funny, so i guessed i must have knifed the wires that were in the gromet. I have removed the gromet and now i have found that i cut 2 Grey wires! Thick braded wires! Not in half though! Just a bit enough to break the insulation and go in a tiny bit,

So does anyone know what these wires are for? 2 Med size grey wires in the gromet that goes behind the glove, top left firewall.

Quick Please!!!ThanksRon

Ps i could take a pic if needed.

Troy,

Not sure what those are and sorry for the trouble you're having. If I may offer a suggestion for next time.....

I usually straighten a wire hanger and punch ut through the grommet. I then bend the end into a small hook and attach the power wire to it then cover with tape. Pulls through real easy like that especially if you smear a little oil on the wire. Damages nothing...

Good luck

They're braided wires, but insulated? Never seen that. Ground braids squelch RF noise. If it's just a small break through the insulation it's probably not the cause.

I agree here. If this wire is reletively thick, like coax cable, then the braided wire your seeing should be silver in color and wrapping around a another cable, that will actually contain several more wires. If you only scrapped the outter "braided" wiring, its nothing more than a ground, but if you managed to slice some other wires, and have gotten them to touch that braided wiring, then you could have problems. I doubt this is the case, as you mentioned you are running a "POWER WIRE". Im assuming for an amplifier.

Q45's have an extensive power system that is nearly overloaded. If you are running amplifiers and speakers that require lots of juice and the alternator and battery arent up to the task, these addistions could be causing some electrical issues. What was the power wire addition for, and what problems are you seeing?

Thanks.

Hey guys,

The wires are grey and are exactly like co-ax cables. im 99% sure they are important, because before i put tape on the cut part and a bit after i did i noticed a serious lack of power and the transmission seemed to be shifting hard.i pulled out earlier to go somewhere and the car sputtered allmost to the point of stalling, i went back to my house pronto and inspected the wires again, i noticed that the car was idling funny staying around 1000rpm then jumping up to 1200 or so then back. i bent the wires so if there was touching wires they would not touch, it smoothed right out after i touched the wires and i have all my power back and a smooth shift again.

Anywhere i can see a detailed schematic for this car to figure out what these wires do?

Thanks,Ronnie

Maybe you hit a shielded harness like SpecD said? You'll need a copy of the FSM for a wiring diagram.

The wire goes from the computer to the coil packs drivers side.

That would explain your driveability issues!

Knife should never meet with a grommet or LAN cabling. I cringe at the thought.

Yea me too now!!

But seriously, Repairing the cables seems to be the only option, short of taking out the whole wiring harness from the computer all the way to the coil pack and replacing that. Not looking forward to that, but need the Q runnin tip top. Still have a miss, but i got crazy power above 60 km/h. When that cable is not grounding out or whatever is going on to make the car wanna stall out at times. and have alot less power and shift harder.

My Poor Q dont deserve this, shes had it rough. j/k
